Reader & Writer's Workshop
(K-2nd Grade)
Our classrooms are filled with diversity: students who are excelling, students learning an additional language or students who have been identified as needing more intensive support. Our students may come from difficult family situations or have limited academic experience. Others may be suffering from past instruction that has focused on a single dimension of the reading or writing process, leaving them tangled and unable to keep up with their peers. The varied learners in our classrooms are an asset – an opportunity to bring out the best in ourselves and our practice. The diversity of need that our students bring to our classrooms gives us the opportunity to do our very best work. In this hands-on, fast-paced training, Kelly Boswell will demonstrate how a workshop approach to teaching reading and writing can help serve all students. You’ll learn practical tips and tools to help students discover (or re-discover) how to live joyfully literate lives while still holding fast to rigorous standards. You’ll also learn how to become an expert professional who – like a doctor – listens, looks, assesses, and connects, then takes responsive action to help all students reach their potential.
