Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term - Issue 8

Happy Halloween!

Big picture

A word from Mr Broom

Our first half term is now over and it's been an incredibly successful one. I'm delighted that our new teachers and those moving year groups have settled well. It's been another exciting week with the highlight being our wonderful harvest festival which was expertly led by Mrs Butterfield's and Mr Browning's class. The singing was nothing short of sensational; a real treat!

When we return after the break, there's only 7 weeks to the Christmas holidays! We've so much to look forward to. Parents evenings, discos, book fair, productions to name a few.

I hope you have a lovely half term and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 5th November.

New Flower Bed

You may have noticed that the flower bed at the school main entrance gate has been cleared and replanted. I'd like to say a special thank you to Malcolm and Paul from Field's Garden Centre for providing the plants free of charge. It makes such a big difference to the entrance.

Remembrance Day Competition

There will be a Remembrance Day display in St. Leonard's Hospice shop window and we've been asked if any of our children would like to take part in a colouring competition with prizes for 1st and 2nd place.

To take part, simply print one of the colouring pages from the booklet below, colour the page and then return it to school on Monday 5th November.

Good luck!

STAR MAT October News

Before School Reminder

While the vast majority of our children play together well or talk with their parents before school starts, a small number seem to be running around causing a few problems. I'd like to politely remind parents that school assumes responsibility for all children at 0840 when the doors open. Thank you for your support.

School Start Times Reminder

Just a quick reminder of our school start times.

School doors open at 0840 and children are met on the playground by their teacher.

School doors close at 0845. After this time, children are late to school.

We have a few children who are persistently late and we need to ensure that they arrive on time so that they can start their learning. Please support us with this.

Changes to Lunch Menu

As the first day back after half term is 5th November (Bonfire Night), we will be serving Hot Dogs & Chips followed by Gingerbread Men. Pizza will now be served the following Monday 12th November.

Grapes - If you bring 'em, slice 'em

We've noticed that many of our packed lunches contain whole grapes as part of the meal. If you would like to include grapes in your child's pack up, please ensure that all grapes are sliced. This significantly reduces the chance of choking. Thank you.

Staff Shout Outs

Are you impressed by what our staff do for your child? Let them know! Complete the form below.

Nut Allergies

If your child brings either a snack or a pack up to school, please help us to protect some of our children who have nut allergies by checking that the products you send with them do not contain any nuts. Thank you.

School Attendance

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 3 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 98.7%!

Our average attendance this week is 95.5% which is below the national average.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.

Mobiles on Site

Our teachers have planned exciting lessons for all our children and when they leave school, we're confident that they will want to share their day with you. Conversation is really important to your child's development and for this reason, we're asking that you refrain from using your phone on the school site at drop off and pick up times.
