A Peek at our Week
Writing: Our writers are learning how to bring their stories to life! They are working on making their characters move and talk. Instead of saying "I went down the hallway." they could say "I tiptoed down the hallway." They are adding dialogue to their stories by reminiscing about what was said during their event. They are also learning to tell their story across the pages with a beginning, middle, and end. Next week, students will learn to bring their characters to life by making then think and feel. What big feelings did you have during this small moment of your life? Were you excited, scared, nervous, etc?
Math: This week, we focused on the meaning of the equal sign. Students practiced identifying if a number sentence was true or false. For example, they worked hard to figure out that 4 + 3 = 5 + 2 is a true number sentence. 4 + 3 = 5 + 1 is a false number sentence. When a number sentence is false, we worked on ways to make it true by changing one number. Next week, we will finish up the first half of Module 1 and students will take their Mid Module 1 Assessment in class.
Word Study: This week, we focused on the short o sound. Students worked with consonant-vowel-consonant words both in isolation and in various decodable texts. We also worked with our first quarter sight words. Next week, we will focus on the short vowel e.

Fast bridge reports
Fast Bridge assessment scores are coming home today (Thursday, 10/5). A few things to keep in mind when looking at your child's reading and math scores:
*This is the first time they have taken an assessment like this on the computer.
*Navigating a laptop with a mouse pad and touch screen provides a challenge in itself, as well as listening to directions through headphones.
*Staying focused through a task like this early in the school year is tough!
*Students will take this assessment again in January and May. We are looking for growth in their performance.
*This is just one snapshot in time and not the only data we look at when we assess students at GP.
