From Mr. Lucita
Last week of February here we come! Cannot believe that we are already two months into the spring semester! WOW, it’s moving fast! Marching season will be here before you know it! Did I really just type that?! :)
This week we have several items on the agenda! On Wednesday all Hays CISD MS Bands will perform their UIL programs at the Hays PAC in a Pre-UIL Concert. There will be three consultants to provide feedback about their performance as they continue to prepare for UIL in March! McCormick MS Bands are 11:40 & 12:30, the Dahlstrom MS Bands are 12:50, 1:10 & 1:30. Those campuses will distribute detailed schedules to their students and parents.
This week in the Johnson Bandhall, it is all about TCGC and the Johnson Winter Guard!! First, let’s celebrate! The Johnson Winter Guard competed in it's third TCGC Contest. This one was held at Lehman HS and for the second week in a row the Johnson Winter Guard walked away with a first place finish!! Congratulations to this hard working group of students and their Director, Mr. Duffy for another great showing! We are super proud!!
This week it will be Johnson HS's turn to play host to a TCGC Contest. I am sure that you have seen the numerous emails, the Facebook posts or maybe even heard the news in some other fashion. However you heard about it, we are just excited because it will be here this week! We will be setting up Friday night and making all of the last minute preparations! In addition to hosting this event, our Jaguar Winter Guard will also be competing! We wish them the very best of luck as they progress through their competitive season! If you are part of the crew of volunteers, a paying spectator or a performer, we will see you at the big event Saturday!
This past weekend was also the beginning band instrument drive for Dahlstrom and McCormick Middle Schools. If you know if anyone that missed the drive and their child wants to be in band, they simply need to contact their 6th grade campus and ask for the Band Director. They will be happy to schedule a make-up date and time! Help spread the word to the community, families, and friends that Band is an incredible program that accepts everyone and that they can only join in 6th grade so they shouldn't miss this opportunity!!
In closing, just a reminder that this week we continue our regular schedule of rehearsals and sectionals for Winds, Guard and Percussion! Make sure you check the calendar for specific dates and times of all events!
