Movement Monday
Thank you for having us Monday morning ! We are honored to be a part of "Movement Mondays" as the administration supports academic and personal development in each and every student! We enjoyed incorporating the schools current theme of "self worth” into our activities!
On Monday we shared the word “affirmations” with the students and practice positive “ I am…” statements! “ I am” statements have been shown to heighten imagination, memory , learning and concentration when practiced regularly. OPES students learned two new breathing techniques that are both organizing to the nervous system and the visual system. Candle breathing was one such breath. This breath pattern calms and organizes the central nervous system assists in improving focus and promotes a “ready” like state for learning. This breath also assists in developing eye teaming, the eyes working in coordination with each other. These ocular motor (eye movement) skills are very important for fluidity in reading and writing tasks as well! We love to teach this breath for both of these fabulous reasons!
OPES students were challenged physically with both Tree and Boat poses. Although common poses, when practiced together they are a great community building activity! Both tree and boat can be very difficult for some children. There are several variations of each posture and all develop core strength and focus- when done together as a group we identify each others different “types” of trees and boats and this allows for some laughter, fun and encouragement from other in each group and also a significant amount of time for each child to work on each posture - identifying their own ability and pride in “their” variation of boat ( ie.. Sailboat, Row Boat, Canoe, Etc.)!
Thank you again for having Movement, Mindfulness and Me as part of OPES Movement Mondays!

Boosterthon is Coming!
Parents and families—this year’s main fundraiser is the Orchard Park Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on Wednesday, October 2. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Orchard Park Fun Run, which will happen on Friday, October 11. This year our goal is to raise $38,000 for STEAM Dreams, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Mindspark: Wild West! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the Mindspark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward STEAM Dreams and the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on funrun.com. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Orchard Park Fun Run. Thanks so much for your support!
