SLPHS Families,
Our work at SLPHS centers around this goal – all students graduate with a plan for their life after high school and with the skills, knowledge, and attributes to actualize their plans. We want students to be ready whether their plans are tied to enrollment in a post-secondary institution, enlistment in military service or employment.
During October’s college knowledge month, we provided resources and supports for students and families around post-secondary enrollment options. We will continue to have college representatives and military service recruiters visiting weekly throughout the year to support students in their planning.
We wrapped up the month with a special visit from the Minnesota Transportation Center of Excellence career exploration trailer. The trailer provides hands-on activities as students explore different career paths within transportation and post-secondary programs available to prepare students for these careers. Check out the photos and learn more in this week’s newsletter.
Whatever paths students take, being on time is a skill they will need. We have seen a significant uptick in students arriving late each day to school. Please reinforce with your student the importance of arriving before first period, which begins at 8:10 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (after Support and Extension Time). You can access the daily schedule on our website. Thanks for your support.
Our timeliness may be challenged further as daylight savings time ends this weekend. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour this weekend.
Finally this week, it’s not too late to get your tickets for SLP’s award-winning theater. The fall play, “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” opened last weekend and runs through this weekend. It is great to see our students back on stage in a fun – and funny – production. I encourage you to check it out.
As November begins, I am looking forward to another productive and positive month of school. Thank you, as always for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we build brighter futures.

Career exploration, trailer style
Students had a chance to test their skills with heavy equipment as they used a simulator to excavate and load dirt. That was just one of the many interactive and hands-on activities packed into the Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence career exploration trailer. Students explored the high-tech side of transportation careers such as aviation, truck driving and auto repair where careers are growing 3-15 percent a year. Read more about the experience.

Comedy in crime in this rouge's gallery of ten-minute plays wrapped in a classic whodunnit. When eccentric billionaire J. You never know what's coming next when your suspects include disgruntled chefs, teen detectives, and vengeful divas, but one thing's for certain: Every alibi is absolutely absurd.
Performance dates:
- Thursday, November 11, 7 p.m.
- Friday, November 12, 7 p.m.
