Fall 2022
Dear Parent/Guardian,
CogAT - Cognitive Abilities Test measures both general and specific cognitive abilities. The general reasoning abilities measured by the test show the cognitive process and strategies that help a student learn new tasks or solve problems. CogAT measures students’ learned reasoning abilities in the three areas most linked to academic success in school: Verbal, Quantitative and Nonverbal.
CogAT’s measurement of the three domains ensures that teachers receive a balanced view of the child and are able to adjust instruction to better meet the students’ learning needs.
All Plano ISD students in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7 will be administered the CogAT test thai fall. CogAT is administered on paper to students in grades 3, 5 and 7, however, students in grade 1 will be administered the online version of CogAT.
Students at Christie will take CogAT on 9/26-9/30
Students who complete all three domains will receive a CogAT Composite Score called an Ability Profile. Parents/Guardians will be able to view their student’s Ability Score posted in the Plano ISD Parent Portal by mid-November. If you wish to gain further knowledge of your student’s Ability Profile please visit this interactive website by Riverside Publishing at https://www.riversideinsights.com/apps/cogat.
As always, we wish to keep parents involved and informed about student programs.
Meal Benefits Eligibility Expiration
Students who qualified for free or reduced-price meals at the end of last school year are eligible to participate at their current eligibility status for the first 30 calendar days of the 2022-2023 school year.
In order for meal benefits to continue, a federal meal application for the 2022-2023 school year must be completed. Students with no application on file after 30 calendar days will return to full-paid eligibility status effective September 23, 2022.
Households that have submitted a federal meal application for free or reduced-priced meals for the 2022-2023 school year do not need to reapply.

Grandparents' Day at the Book Fair
This year we are excited to welcome grandparents back onto campus for a special week, in conjunction with our book fair. Instead of one day to come have lunch with your favorite cubs, you can choose any day during the week of October 3rd. In order to help best prepare seating there are some suggested days to plan your visit. Simply pick the day that corresponds to your student’s last name and visit that day. The schedule isn’t mandatory and we can’t wait to see as many grandparents we can back here at Christie to have lunch and visit our amazing book fair!
Courtyard will be open, weather permitting.
Notes From the School Nurse
1. If your student is sick and absent from school for THREE or more school days, you must provide a doctor’s note for those absences to be excused.
2. If a parent/guardian note is provided for absences, only THREE days will be excused.
3. Parents/guardians have 30 days after their student’s illness to provide a doctor’s note or parent note for absences. Notes provided after 30 days from illness will not excuse those absence dates.
4. If your student is absent because they are COVID positive, the school nurse must be notified. These absences due to COVID quarantine will also need a doctor’s note, lab test results, or a call to the school nurse.
____________________________________________________________________________
Greetings, Christie families! This year we are teaming up with Original Works to support our wonderful PTA. Currently, students are creating works that can be turned into wonderful gifts. Original Works can create one of a kind key chains, magnets, bookmarks, and more from your child’s artwork created in the classroom. This an optional opportunity that will benefit the many programs and events our PTA provides. As students begin to finish their creations, you will receive fliers and more information on how to order products. The Artwork Packages will head home in October. This will be the time where families who are interested can order their personalized gifts. The deadline for orders will be 10/14/2022. We expect to receive the orders and artwork back by November 17. In the meantime, take a look at some of the wonderful options available this year.

PISD eNews Update
Plano ISD’s current eNews application is being retired by the district. Schools will no longer be able to use the eNews application after September 19. Parents will continue to receive school news and information via email using the SchoolMessenger system. For SchoolMessenger, we use the email address that parents provide during the enrollment process (which can be updated through Parent Portal). If you are a parent and are not currently receiving emails from our campus or the district, please visit www.pisd.edu/schoolmessenger for technical assistance.
Student Lunch Deliveries
If you plan to drop off lunch to your student please ask them to tell their teacher. Your cub will let their teacher know and then will come to the office to pick up before heading to the cafeteria to enjoy it.
When you drop off a lunch make sure it has the student name and teacher name 0n it. Look for the student table to the right of the door.
Outside deliveries from third parties are not allowed.
Families, Plano ISD has a policy against third party deliveries for students. Third parties do include food deliveries, floral or balloon arrangements etc. Please do not have lunch sent from a delivery service, as these will unfortunately be turned away and your student will need to purchase lunch from the cafeteria. For more information you can visit the Policy guide at https://www.pisd.edu/pp_policyGuide_English page 101
Thank you for your understanding
