IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- It is VITAL that students are charging their laptops AT HOME each evening.
- Students must have earbuds or earphones at school every day in order to effectively work on their iREADY lessons. Students can buy them from the PBIS Rewards Cart for 24 points
- Lanyards are part of our dress code and must be worn every day, all day.
- ONLY clear water bottles are allowed on campus.
iREADY Math and Reading
Students are provided time during Encores and Lunch/Enrichment time to work through their iREADY lessons. Wednesday afternoons are also dedicated to iReady for reading and math.
In addition to progressing through an individualized program, students are keeping track of their own progress. Your child should be able to tell you how many lessons they pass each week. The more they pass, the more the students grow.
For Our MVP's
TECH TIP FOR PARENTS
What We Are Learning in ELA
Students are learning how to analyze a story's plot in addition to the development of the characters in a story. We are learning about plot elements such as exposition, rising actions, climax, falling actions, and resolution.
We are beginning our Wonder novel study. Students are reading the novel both in class and at home. Then, we are discussing various literary elements of the novel as well as measuring understanding of figurative language and multiple-meaning words. Students are learning new vocabulary through the novel study. The overall theme of "Wonder" is kindness, and we are engaging in meaningful discussions about what kindness is, what it looks like and what it does not look like.
For the remainder of the grading period, we will be finishing our novel study in addition to determining word meaning using context clues, analyzing text structure, and determining/comparing point of view.
What We Are Learning in MATH
What We Are Learning in SCIENCE
Students are exploring matter, energy and waves. They are participating in virtual labs. A huge focus is on science vocabulary.
What We Are Learning in SOCIAL STUDIES
Students have explored the Five Themes of Geography (Location, Human Environment Interaction, Region, Place and Movement). This has laid the groundwork before we begin discussing the Eight Features of Civilization (Cities, Government and Laws, Writing, Specialized Jobs/Division of Labor, Social Classes, Technology and Public Works, Highly Organized Religions and Art/Architecture). Students are learning the fundamentals of civilization, so they are ready for exploration of the the ancient civilizations we will also begin this quarter (Stone age and Fertile Crescent Civilizations)
