MEDICINE AT PINE COVE
Please remember that all medications to be taken at Pine Cove must be turned in by Nov 13th along with any doctor’s notes needed. Please make sure all medication is brought to the nurse in their original packaging. All prescription medication must be in a current prescription bottle with the prescription label intact.
Please do not think this is the time to take your student off of their ADHD medication if they normally take ADHD meds. This is still a learning environment and they DO need to be able to concentrate and be productive even though they are outside.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Vanstory, the nurse, at 469-633-2208! Thank you!

Lone Star Challenge
Do you have a passion for traveling the world… learning new material in Reading, Math, and Science… Or, enjoy learning about places and cultures around the world. Possibly, you enjoy studying animals from different environments. If you do, you’re in luck! Smith Elementary is competing in the Lone Star Challenge against other 4th and 5th graders in our district and state of Texas. This year’s theme is “A Traveler’s Guide to the World”.
Nine 4th and 5th grade students are selected from Smith to join the team and become experts over exploring the world.
Lone Star Challenge practices are held at school following Winter Break (in January) on Tuesday afternoons and continue at home. Teammates are expected to prepare at home and during our practices for the competitions within our district and state through the end of April. These competitions include tests in Reading, Writing, History, Math, and Science.
If you enjoy traveling the world and learning new content in all subject areas, come see Mrs. Fariss (room 302) or Mrs. Williams (room 207) for the application! Tryouts will be after school on December 5th. Good luck!
Counselor's Corner
November Guidance lessons are covering the topic of Bullying. We discuss the difference between conflict and bullying, how to report bullying, and how a bystander can help a person who is being bullied.
The Smith staff periodically reminds students how to report bullying so that we can encourage a safe and positive school climate.
We are continuing to introduce and discuss the Character Lab skills to our students. Growth Mindset and Gratitude are being stressed this 9 weeks period.
Growth mindset-believing we can get smarter through hard work and good strategies
Gratitude-appreciating what others have done for us
Wonder Shirts for Sale
Smith students are enjoying RJ Palacio’s books this year! Kinder – Second Grade has read We’re All Wonders. Third- Fifth Grade is reading Wonder. These two books help teach children to choose to be kind to others. The story is about a boy who is born looking different from everyone and the trials he goes through. He ends up making friends along the way because of students who choose to be kind. We are launching a #choosekind campaign at Smith this year! Join the fun and order this one-of-a-kind shirt to help us celebrate! Orders will close on November 30, so our printer can make the shirts! Please note the shirts will be lighter in color than the sample artwork. Also, please order a size up because the shirts run small.
Staff, students and parents can order online using the link: https://smithelementarywonder.itemorder.com/sale
