Weather-Related School Closures
It’s that time of year again when we must discuss school closings. As you know, the weather and roads can be an issue this time of year. We want you to know that we are always concerned about the safety of the students and parents.
We work with the superintendents from other local school districts and the Lapeer Intermediate School District as well as the Lapeer County Road Commission and law enforcement to determine the conditions around the county. If your local school district is closed that does not mean that Chatfield is closed.
The school directors will make the determination as early as possible and send out messages via:
Radio: WWJ 950, WJR 760, WMPC 1230
Television: Fox 2, Local 4, ABC 7, WWJTV CBS,
CW 50, ABC 12
Internet: www.chatfieldschool.org
Skylert School Messenger: Parents can adjust their contact preferences, E-mail, Text, Phone Call,by going into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the Skylert tab.
As a general rule of thumb Chatfield School does not have early release on days when the weather and roads become worse during the day. We will provide updates regarding the status of evening activities by posting them to the school website. Road conditions can vary around the county and on different surfaces so as always use your best judgement and safety when determining if you should drive to school. Safety is always our first priority.

The Friendship Journey from Mrs. Kress
Often when a child comes home unhappy because of a friendship struggle, as parents, we want to fix the problem immediately and protect them from feeling hurt. But a more powerful approach is to let your child experience the hurt feelings and conflict from a safe distance.
Supporting your child through their emotions with friendship struggles, rather than trying to fix their problems, allows your child to feel their feelings and learn how to process them in a way that works for them (a lifelong skill!). Please see the graphic below.
