Did you know...
It is developed and reviewed each year jointly with parents/families to establish meaningful parent and family engagement with schools. This plan includes things like surveys, newsletters, and family engagement activities. It is distributed to families in the Fall of each school year. Buildings keep track of the activities and dates, and keep things like sign-ins, agendas and fliers in their Title I or Section 31a grant evidence crates.
Some Assessments May Be Administered During Remote Instruction
The MAP Growth assessment is a computer adaptive test. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This type of assessment challenges top performers without overwhelming students whose skills are below grade level. These types of assessments are designed to have students answer about half of the questions incorrectly, while honing in on their true skill level, producing an accurate RIT score based on their abilities. This score allows us to measure growth over time, which is the reason why students take the assessment three times each year, and you receive reports that provide scores across years.
While the MAP Growth assessment is usually given in person at school, we might encounter a time that it is necessary for students to take the assessment at home in a virtual setting. Utilizing the NWEA MAP website, this can be an easy process for students, families, and school staff. Teachers will administer the assessment during a Zoom session with their classes. Students will be provided as much time as necessary to complete the assessment. Depending on the abilities and/or grade level of the student, there might be adult help needed to log in to the website. The student should answer the questions without support from the adult.
If necessary to complete the MAP assessment virtually, please remember:
- This is an assessment intended to accurately measure the abilities of the student, without adult help in answering questions.
- The data generated from this assessment will help the teacher to guide instruction for your child. It is important that the data reflects the student’s academic abilities accurately.
- This assessment is intended to have questions that students will answer incorrectly, as it is computer-adaptive.
- Students are allowed to stop and complete the assessment at another time if necessary.
If you have any questions about the MAP assessment or the way that your child will be taking the assessment, please contact your child’s teacher.
Need Internet Access during Remote Instruction?
Due to the lack of quality internet access in parts of the District, we will offer students parent supervised drop-in sessions to utilize in-building internet access during the interim full-time virtual period (September 8 - October 5). This includes access to computer labs and Wi-Fi service. Students who need to utilize the service must sign-up for blocks of time in advance (weekly).
Transportation and food service will not be provided for students taking part in the drop-in sessions. For more information, contact the main office at your child's school.
