Message From Mr. G
This year's Polar Express will not be exactly how we have done it in the past. I suspect many of us will be celebrating the holidays in different ways than normal this year. But the important thing is that we honor our traditions in novel and safe ways to celebrate the magic and hope of the season. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Kevin Garcia
Principal
Teacher of the Year
Jonica Weiler is the Barfield Early Childhood Center's 20-21Teacher of the Year! Jonica is a Speech Language Pathologist that specializes in evaluating children to determine if they need speech or language services. Her position requires her to collect and analyze data to make decisions. What makes Jonica special is that while she respects the importance of data, the focus of her work is not a number but on the child. She takes the time to establish rapport with children and makes the testing session engaging. Many of the children she assesses struggle with communication and they are aware how difficult it is for them to be understood. Jonica demonstrates patience and compassion, putting students at ease, ensuring that she gets the best from each child she tests. Not only does she get a snapshot of the child’s communication during the testing session, but Jonica always obtains information from parents, therapists, and daycare providers to gather a complete picture of the child. Jonica’s evaluations and interpretation of the results are always thoughtful and very accurate. In addition to excelling at her diagnostic role Jonica always goes above and beyond to help our school. Any time there is a call for additional help, Jonica immediately volunteers. She goes out of her way to see if she can help. At dismissal you can find Jonica on the parking lot directing traffic where patience and compassion are essential skills! Jonica is an incredibly supportive and positive coworker. She has a kind heart and genuinely cares for her coworkers. Jonica uplifts everyone and her presence and contributions make Barfield a more positive and happy place for students and staff!

Attendance Reminder
Because of Covid-19 we are trying to monitor symptoms of staff and students. If we do not have a verified absence, we will be in contact with you.
Thank you in advance for all your help!
From the Nurses
In relation to when to stay home due to Covid, PLEASE NOTE THAT IF ANYONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD IS BEING TESTED FOR COVID THE STUDENT MUST STAY HOME. This is the policy for the whole district not just our students here at Barfield. Also, IF SOMEONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD TESTS POSITIVE THE STUDENT MUST ALSO STAY HOME. Please contact the school nurse if the test comes back positive and they will work with you on when your child can return to school. If there was a positive exposure to the student outside of school, please contact the nurse and they will work with you on whether your child can attend or will need to be quarantined.
We understand that this is a difficult time for everyone. We want you to know that we are doing our best here at Barfield to keep everyone healthy. Please contact the nurses if you have any questions.
We hope everyone has a safe and healthy holiday season!
