GH Summer Update

Welcome
This will be my 4th year as Principal at Government Hill.
I hope you and your family continue to enjoy this summer but I thought I would share a quick update for upcoming events and plans.
Online Registration or Enrollment
Returning Students
Who is a returning student?
- Currently enrolled students who intend to return next year
- Students changing divisions- Elementary to Middle, Middle to High
- Students who have moved from one ASD zone to another ASD zone (you will need to provide proof of residency to your new school)
- Incoming kindergartners that attended an Anchorage School District preschool program
Students who are returning and already enrolled in the district need to register.
New Students
Who is a New-to District Student?
- Students who have never been enrolled in the Anchorage School District before
- Students returning after having left the Anchorage School District to attend in another district or state
- Incoming kindergartners that did not attend an Anchorage School District preschool program
- Families interested in general education preschool programs should click HERE. Children attending a general education preschool program must first be accepted prior to completing pre-enrollment.
Students who are new to the Anchorage School District need to enroll, including kindergartners.
In-person Registration
In-person Registration will be held at all Anchorage School District Schools
Elementary:
- Tuesday, August 2 - 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- Wednesday, August 3 - 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM & 5:00 to 7:00 PM
- Thursday, August 4 - 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Back To School Barbecue
We will have hot dogs provided by the Alaska Railroad, a free book give away, music and lots of fun. You will be able to see class lists on that day and meet your teacher.
School Supplies

For $12 you will receive:
- 24 count crayola crayons
- 12 count ticonderoga #2 pencils
- 12 count crayola colored pencils
- 1 pencil sharpener
- 1 bottle of elmer's white glue
- 1 elmer’s glue stick
- 1 latex free eraser
- 1 pair of scissors
.....and for each bundle purchased a bundle will go to a student in need.
Order your bundle now and pick it up at the back to school barbecue.
Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15th)
I would like for all of our families of Hispanic Heritage to "host a table" and share information about their heritage/culture (you can share a recipe with samples, share a song or dance, share your family journey to the US/Alaska, you can share historical information, share information about your favorite artist or author, the possibilities are endless. I would love for it to be in Spanish. If you are not of Hispanic Heritage and speak English, never fear, you can still participate. I would love for an English-Speaking Family and a Spanish Speaking Family to collaborate to host the table together. We can even possibly have multiple families with the same heritage join together to host one table.
I am also excited to announce that I have Indra Arriaga, Anchorage artist, coming to show her Film, Sabor Ártico, in the library that evening. We will have two presentations on the hour, since the film is 20 minutes long.

I plan on having information/planning meetings on August 12 and August 26th at 5:00 PM.
6th Grade Leadership Academy
I will meet with students at school from 9 AM to 1 PM on August 10th and August 11th. I will provide breakfast and lunch.
Upon completion of the two day academy (8 hours) the students will earn a 6th Grade Leader t-shirt. I would love for all 6th graders to go through the academy. Depending on participation rate, I may calendar another academy on the weekend late August or Early September.
