CMS JUST RUN
You are invited to participate in this year’s JUST RUN LAKE COUNTY youth fitness program! JUST RUN was designed to combat obesity and to promote physical activity in our youth. The program focuses on nutrition, exercise, and making healthy lifestyle choices.
The primary features of the JUST RUN program include:
● JUST RUN – Students will meet for practice twice a week. Practices will include warm-ups and activities followed by walking/running.
● JUST RACE – Just Run Lake County 5K goal race will be Saturday, May 27th at Fairport Harbor. Students will train and be encouraged to participate.
● JUST RUN WITH YOUR PARENTS – Students are encouraged to walk/run/hike or bike with their parents on the weekends in order to promote family fitness.
JUST RUN is open to children of all ages. Some ages may require parent participation in the program. You must provide your own transportation for your child.
We will practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00p.m to 4:00 pm
We will meet in the LGIR and walk together to Chardon High School and run a loop
nearby.
We will combine running, stretching, drills, games, and discussions about healthy
lifestyles.
In the event of inclement weather, we will practice indoors but most of the time we will
practice rain or shine!
You will need to pick your child up from practice by 4:15 pm. Please do not be late to
pick up your child.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, Suzanne Stewart at suzanne.stewart@chardonschools.org
LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING YOUR FAMILY INVOLVED!
WE WILL BEGIN PRACTICE ON Tuesday, April 4th. There will be no practice on
Thursday, April 6th but every other Tuesday and Thursday we will have practice
until May 23, 2023. The race is on Saturday, May 27th.
A HARD/PAPER copy must be completed for registration. Click the banner below for a copy of the application. Several copies are available in the main office as well.

Sources of Strength
The Chardon Local School District Board of Education recently approved the piloting of Sources of Strength, an evidence-based curriculum designed to help students build on their strengths and recognize the positive forces in their lives that help them manage difficulties, build resilience, and build meaningful connections. Please find a letter to parents/guardians with more information below.
At CMS the program will be piloted in only 5th and 6th grades between now and the end of the school year, with the plan to expand next year after reviewing the impact. So far, students have played games with their advisory groups, discussed their strengths, and learned so much about their classmates in the initial practice lessons they participated in.
The website for Sources of Strength can be found HERE. Questions about the program here at CMS can be directed to Kate Collins in the counseling office or kate.collins@chardonschools.org.

OPTIONAL Summer Math Acceleration Program
All current 5th, 6th, and 7th-grade parents should have received a letter detailing the program from your child's math teacher this week. During the parent meeting, we will have a big Q&A session, however, it will be difficult to address questions about your child's eligibility for this program. Please reach out to their math teacher, school counselor, or school administration for specific questions about their gifted academic identification. Looking forward to the meeting next Wednesday.

GCCTM Math Contest
Congratulations to all of the CMS students who participated in the GCCTM math contest at Kirtland Middle School last Saturday. Mr. Francis was in the scoring room and reported the overall material for this year's contest was challenging. Despite this challenge, our students did great!
In addition, the kids deserve a shoutout for giving up 7-8 lunch/recess periods to prepare for the competition and for getting up early on a Saturday morning to do MATH!!!
A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Francis, Mrs. Mele, Mrs. Stewart, Mr. D'Angelo, Mrs. Culliton, Ms. Paroubek, and Mrs. Mysyk for their organizational efforts in being a host site, coordinating practices with the teams, and attending an event on the weekend.
Builders Club Paper Towel Drive
CMS Builders Club is hosting a paper towel drive March 20th-24th for Rescue Village. Rescue Village is Geauga County’s humane society and takes care of animals year round. Rolls of paper towels are an important resource for Rescue Village as they take care of animals in need.
Each homeroom will collect rolls of paper towels all week. The class that collects the most rolls of paper towels will win a treat. There will be one winner for each grade. Please contact Amanda Weaver amanda.weaver@chardonschools.org if you have any questions.

6th and 7th GRADE GLOW DANCE
A few reminders about the dance:
- There will be NO re-entry after a student chooses to leave the dance.
- PICK-UP and DROP-OFF CHANGE: Drop-off will be down the ALCAN, and pickup will be in the main parking lot by the BOE building. The high school has an event during the dance pick-up time and I expect HEAVY traffic around the high school. Please be VERY CAREFUL as you pull in and out of the lot during this busy time. We need to make sure EVERYONE IS SAFE.
- Students are expected to follow all rules and expectations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with the rules will result in removal from the dance and a meeting with the school administration to discuss further consequences.
We hope to see EVERY 6th/7th grader next FRIDAY!!
