A Note from Me
I hope your weekend was a time for renewing time alone, refreshing conversations with those you cherish, and rejuvenating activities with fun people. My daughter came home from school this weekend and it was great to have everyone under the same roof. For two days we did most things together - eating, napping, worshiping, laughing, remembering, and discussing current affairs. The closer we get to the times in life where we will be more separate, the more I cherish the times together. Message - find balance in everything you do. Time is short and your family matters.
With that being said, I have to say how much I appreciate those who took time from their family this week to help our campus welcome prospective families. Your willingness to share is appreciated but the ones who did it with a genuine intent to help build our program is really appreciated. We do what we do for a reason. The "arts" support child development and so do encouraging attitudes. Thanks!
I also appreciate those who turned their documents in on Friday (folders by the office). I took a few minutes to glance through them and I think most of you are on the right track. Our Tier I instruction is of utmost importance. Your intentional plans for providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students is necessary for our success. But your intentional planning for Tier II instruction is necessary for our success as well. Your Learning Plans for students that are not successful at meeting our expectations and the additional RtI time you've gained will serve as a perfect combination for more success. I can not wait to see how ALL of our students will see great improvement on the next round of MAP, BAS, and on STAAR. There is no excuse for our students to not make huge leaps of improvement. Your instruction based on specifically identified areas of need is the key.
For your information, Dave and I have decided that while we both will continue to visit classrooms across the campus, he will be monitoring the plans and detailed instruction of Escher Hall teachers minus Liggett and I will be monitoring the plans and detailed instruction of DaVinci Hall teachers plus Liggett. We will have the same expectations so our conversations will include your great strategies and improvement.
In closing I need to say that while the last couple of weeks have required all of us to engage in some productive struggle, our improvement will prove to be well worth the struggle. Students will be the benefactor in the process. It isn't about a competition for top scores for a school, that will be a side benefit. It is about our students truly reaching the highest heights they can. Thanks for you dedication to making it happen.
Looking forward,
Joy

DID YOU SEE THE OLYMPIC CLOSING CEREMONIES?
The children's pride in their country, their artistic talents/abilities, and their hope for the future are huge. How can we watch this and not think about our own students' pride, talents, and future?
- We need to be thinking about our students' pride in our school and community.
- We need to be thinking about our students' talents and abilities.
- We need to be thinking about our students' future.
What can we do today to help our students be successful in their passions?
