Word Wall Refocus
Recently our admin team started discussing word walls and how meaningful they can be if truly used. Just after this conversation, we conducted our instructional walks with Dr. Ramirez and we identified several wonderings about word walls in our building:
- I wonder how teachers use the word wall as an instructional tool?
- I wonder how students use the word wall to improve their reading and writing?
- I wonder how often words are added to the word wall?
- I wonder how words are selected to earn a spot on the word wall?
Below you will find a quick read and maybe some ideas on using your word walls. Each week, I will send you a quick tidbit on word walls and my challenge to you is to truly make your word wall meaningful! As admin comes into your room, we want to check our out your word wall, but most importantly, we want you to also share with us how your word wall is used.
Questions to keep the focus on learning
Rick DuFour is the master of all things PLC! He's one of my favorite and when I need to refocus I always refer back to his main four questions:
1. What do we want students to learn
2. How will we know they have learned it?
3. How will we respond when a student experiences difficulty in learning?
4. How will we respond when a student has already achieved mastery?
The four questions above keep the focus on learning and looking at student's individual needs.
