Remote eLearning & Sign-Up Genius to pick up student materials

Dear Rockwell Families:

We will begin to implement remote eLearning for students on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Remote eLearning will assure continuity of instruction during an extended closure and create structure and routine for students.

Rockwell Sign Up Genius

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4AA9A72CA2FD0-rockwell

Remember to practice social distancing when gathering materials and exit the building as quickly as possible.

Guidelines for pickup of student remote learning materials:

  • In order to comply with the 10 person limit in one space, please only send ONE family member to pick up all items. We hope to make this a very quick process, and should only take a few minutes per family member

  • !Please arrive at your scheduled time. :)

  • Respect the social distancing guideline of 6 feet between yourself and other parents or staff members.

  • All parents will enter through the main front doors, and exit through the gym doors

  • .Student materials will be organized by grade level in the gym. Any water bottles, jackets, or other lost and found items will also be in the gym. We will need to limit the number of people around the building, and will do our best to have everything parents may need in the gym.

  • Please utilize the Sign Up Genius below to select a time to pick up your student’s items on Monday, March 23rd.

Other considerations:

  • If you have a library book, you may return it during this time. Simply leave the book on the designated table along with your child’s name on a postcard.

  • If you would like to pick up your students' medication in the office, you may do that as well. A staff member will assist you with getting medicine(s).

Families will start to hear from your child’s teachers with more specific information regarding eLearing on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

We recognize that elementary students, especially younger ones, are not independent learners and may be in childcare during the day. We also know that families are facing a variety of challenges right now, and it is our goal to be flexible in accommodating your needs.

Teachers have been working to compile reading, writing and math learning activities which they will communicate next week. We anticipate that some of those learning activities will require materials from your student(s) classroom.

All students will need the following items:

  • iPads

  • Student textbooks, math student activity book, notebooks, math whiteboard with dry erase marker,.etc.

  • For band/orchestra students: instrument

Students in grades 3-5 have their district-issued iPad. We surveyed earlier to determine who in K-2 would need an iPad and which families need to check out a charger. If you did not respond to the survey, you will not receive a device during Phase I. Families can still receive a device during Phase II. If you have a student in 3rd-5th grade., younger siblings will not receive a device. The District goal is for families to have one device per household.

If you already have the required materials at home, there is no need to come to school.

Thank you for our partnership during these unprecedented times.

Free Meals During School Closure

MPS District Food Service has been working on a plan to provide free meals during a school closure. We have identified the following sites to provide free breakfast and lunch to any child ages 1 - 18:

  • Keith Lutz Horizon HS
  • Millard North HS
  • Millard South HS
  • Millard Central MS
  • Millard North MS
  • Cody
  • Disney
  • Holling Heights
  • Rockwell
  • Sandoz
Meal service will begin on Monday March 23, 2020 operating Monday thru Friday offering breakfast and lunch from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. We will be serving both breakfast and lunch at the same time, to limit multiple trips for families to the school. This program is open to any child between ages 1 -18 with no proof of eligibility and no information is collected from the students or families. This program is supported through federal reimbursements through the USDA.

How serving will work:

  • Serving will be curb-side pick at the main entry to the building
  • Students 18 or younger will be able to come and pick up a meal: which will consist of breakfast and lunch. Adults are not included with these meals.
  • Staff will prep and package meals for easy pick-up
  • Staff will set up by the front doors and wait for families to pull up
  • Staff will collect a headcount of students and walk meals out to cars
  • The public will remain outdoors

Each site is staffed in compliance with the current social distance guidelines. During service meal distribution will be staged at the building entrance.
