Important Message from Mrs. Zagala

Last week you received an email from NISD asking you to select your child's instructional program for the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you to those of you that have already made your selection. If you have not made your selection yet, the deadline to choose has been extended to Sunday, August 16th. If you did not receive the email, you can access the form at this link: . You will need your child's birthday and school ID number. If you need help submitting the form, please call the school at 210-397-0800 and we would be happy to help you complete the form. Having this information for all of our students really helps us to best plan for the upcoming school year.

If you feel the need to discuss your situation with me personally, please send me an email at with your name and phone number or call the school and leave me a message and I would be glad to call you back so that we can discuss the options.

Have a great week and be well!

Mrs. Zagala

Parent Town Hall Questions & Answers

Thank you to those of you that joined us for our Town Hall last week. We received excellent questions about the start of the year. If you were not able to join us for the meeting, I have compiled a list of the questions and answers below.

When is "Meet the Teacher"?

We will have a virtual Meet the Teacher and Orientation on Thursday, August 20th at 4:00, 5:00 y 6:00 PM. We will have information on how to join the virtual meetings in next week's bulletin. Grade levels will present together. Each teacher does have a class list, but due to the two platforms that will be offered in the fall and the likelihood that students will be transitioning between these, class assignments may change as students switch platforms. We feel it is best to meet all of the teachers at one time and for grade levels to have common expectations.

What is the schedule for and expectations for virtual learning?

Each grade level will have their own schedule with a combination of live virtual lessons as well as independent work time. Teachers will present their schedules at Meet the Teacher and they will also be posted on the districts website this week. Attendance and grades will be given for virtual learning. If a student misses the live lesson, it will be recorded and put in Schoology to be viewed later.

How will social distancing be handled and how will the school manage the use of masks for the little ones?

In the classroom, cafeteria, gym, and hallways students will need to remain six feet apart from each other. We will have marks on the floor to help remind students to maintain distance. Students in grades 1-5 will be required to wear masks in school. Students in Prek and kinder are encouraged to wear masks.

What will in person learning look like?

Students will follow their regular schedule of learning while social distancing at all times. The only difference is that they will not go to music, art or STEM class. Those teachers will come to them. There will not be any field trips or large assemblies this year.

How will food distribution in the cafeteria work?

Students will have to sit 6 feet apart in the cafeteria, because of that we will not be able to have everyone sit in the cafeteria at the same time. We plan on having a schedule where on some days students will eat in their classroom and other days they will eat in the cafeteria.

Children will have many changes that can affect their emotions and psychology. Will there be therapies or workshops with a psychologist or professionals in these areas?

Each class will have weekly classes with guidance counselors. Teacher will have daily meetings and check ins with students. Parents can also give permission for a child to attend small group counseling or one on one. A child can also request to speak with a counselor at any time. For the parents, we will be working with our community liaison to set up different Cafecitos with topics that will help our families adjust to these changes.

I am currently working from home but what if I have to go back to work before the nine weeks is up? Will there be special circumstances that if I get called back into office can they go to in person learning?

I do not have an answer to this right now. If this situation comes up, please contact me so that we can discuss. We do not want to lose any students.

Will first time parents of the school be able to see the school?

Our goal is to set up an in person school tour right before we open the door to students.

How soon will parents and students be able to log-in to Schoology?

The system will be turned on for students on August 17th. We will get you more information on how to log in once it becomes available.

2020-2021 School Supply Lists

We have received many questions regarding school supply lists for the upcoming school year. If your child is signed up for in-person learning they will need the traditional school supplies that are located on our regular school list. If your child is registered for virtual learning they will still require school supplies; however the list has been adjusted to better meet the needs of on-line learning. Both the in-person school supply list and the virtual school supply list can be found on this website: .

If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact our community liaison, Mrs. Monica Garcia at 210-397-0800 or
