Dear Parents / Carers,
What a glorious week we have had with the weather this week! We have had a great week working outside and celebrating World Earth Day as a school culminating in an assembly online on Thursday to share what each class has been doing. The children have strong views on the damage being done by adults and lots of ideas for protecting our planet for them and their children in the future. Please ask your child about this if you can.
Tuesday was a very busy day in school as myself and governors interviewed for two Assistant Headteachers to develop the leadership team and create a secure and appropriate leadership structure going forward. After a rigorous internal selection process, I am very pleased to announce the Mrs Cameron and Mrs Fitzpatrick were successful and will take up their new positions officially in September with Mrs Cameron leading Key Stage 2 and Mrs Fitzpatrick Key Stage 1 and Early Years. Mrs Bembridge continues on the leadership Team in her role as SENDco.
Finally, I have noticed an increase in pupils being late for school since all the children returned. It is very important that children arrive on time so that they know what is going on in the lesson and don't disturb other children when they arrive late. Key stage 2 should be in school for when doors open at 08:45 so that lessons can start promptly. Key stage one and EYFS can arrive at the same time with older siblings but should be at school for 9am please, ready to start their day.

TTR: A big well done to our rock stars of the week: Issac in Uranus, Ivor in Saturn and Oliver in Mars who have put lots of effort into learning their times table this week.
We are so impressed with how hard reception and year 1 are working on NUMBOTS at the moment. Keep it up as it will make such a difference to your learning! This week's certificates go to: Tommy in Mercury, Sophie in Venus and William in Earth.

Pupil Premium & Free School Meals Funding
As you will be aware, Universal Free School Meals are automatically available to all children in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2. However, if you meet certain criteria, your child may be eligible for Free School Meals for the whole of their primary education as well as additional funding to support them with their education, called a 'Pupil Premium'. This additional funding benefits our school to support us to increase your child's attainment.
To qualify for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding, you must fulfil one of the following criteria:
- Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month);
- Income Support;
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
- Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit;
- Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC); or
- Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
If your family circumstances change, you may become eligible. Please see the North Yorkshire website below for more information and to access the relevant application forms. Once your application has been processed, school will be notified automatically . If you require any support with understanding Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding or help with your application, please call one of our admin team who will be happy to advise.

North Yorkshire Catering Menu Competition
NYES Catering is excited to announce our Design your own Lunch Main Meal competition! We want your pupils to get creative and learn about what goes into making and designing a main meal. It also gives them a fantastic opportunity to have their favourite meal on their school’s Autumn 2021 Menu!
We want pupils to set their creative minds free, have fun with food – all whilst learning more about their school lunches. We have the opportunity for you to design your own Lunch Main Meal, name it as you wish, and if you are one of our winners – your meal will feature on the Autumn 2021 Menu across all of our NYES Catering sites. We hope this will be a fun challenge, and that you enjoy the opportunity of having your favourite meal item on your school’s menu cycle for the whole of Autumn 2021 Term!
The judges will be our two fantastic Training & Development Chefs – our in-house experts in all things food, and healthy eating. Plus the added help of our Marketing and Communications Officer to ensure there was plenty of fun had whilst designing the meals.
The winner and runner up will have their meal featured on the menu for the full Autumn 2021 Term in all of the schools across the county that are catered by us.
We will also share some tips to creating a main meal to help aid with the design process.
How to enter
Simply email a photo of your child’s meal or your child and their meal, along with the recipe and name of the meal to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Please include the pupil’s name, age, and details of the school they attend.
Please limit the entries to 1 entry per pupil. This is an in-house competition, so please ensure your child attends a school that is catered for by us.
Deadline: 20:00 on Friday 30th April 2021
The winners will be announced on Wednesday 12th May 2021 and the winning main meal will be published on our website and social media, and the main meal will be included on the Autumn/Winter 2021 Menu.
