Spring Break March 31 - April 7
Have a safe and relaxing Spring Break!
We'll look forward to seeing everyone back on
Monday April 10!
Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
It is difficult to believe that spring break is already upon us and that we have less than 9 weeks of school left this year. We have a busy but exciting end to our year.
The 4th grade students just presented Reflections: Celebrating 25 Years of Music and Dance. Our student musicians and dancers showcased some favorite shows from the past as well as some new pieces. They even incorporated a song from our dedication in 1991, Blessing. "Hats off" to our amazing performers, Mrs. Jackson, Mr. Martin, and our amazing parents who volunteered in a wide variety of capacities.
Our entire student body participated in an art activity to help Celebrate New Britton. Students were asked to create a drawing to show what they love about or think about when asked about New Britton. The drawings and designs were detailed and from the heart. The artwork from our finalists is displayed in the office and near the music room. When you visit, be sure to view our artists' work. The final design was drawn by Brendan Albright, a 4th grader in Mrs. Gundersen's class – congratulations Brendan! This design is on our 25th Anniversary t-shirts. Please continue reading the newsletter for ordering information.
First graders have a celebration to announce based on their inquiry project of giving back to New Britton: They have collected $1,016.00 for their Quarters for a Quarter project! Thanks to all the generous New Britton students, they will be purchasing a tulip poplar tree which is the Indiana state tree! The tree will be planted on Arbor Day which is April 28th! The class with the highest total was Mrs. Sanders's kindergarten class! They raised $112! Her class will be joining first grade for a celebration recess! A big thank you to everyone who helped make this a fun, learning-filled, and successful project!
We will continue our Celebration of 25 Years by hosting a BIG weekend of celebration starting with the Bulldog Blast on Friday, April 21st from 6:30-8:30p.m. for our current students and families. On Sunday, April 23rd we will be hosting an open house from 2:00-4:00p.m. for student and staff alumnae.
Spring Break is here – whatever plans you may have, we wish you a safe, relaxing and family-filled break! We will see our Bulldog students back at school on Monday, April 10th.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

Attention 3rd & 4th grade Parents
ISTEP/CCRA (College &Career Ready Assessment) which is much like the ISTEP+ Multiple Choice testing done online will be the week of April 17th through April 28th.
Testing make-up days will be done as needed throughout the second week. As the time gets closer, teachers will send out detailed dates and information to parents.
The Indiana Department of Education has provided parents with some information concerning the testing at the link below: http://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/istep-grades-3-8
Attendance during these days is very important; please make every attempt to reschedule dentist/doctor appointments around the test dates.
Here are just a few tips for a good start to every morning and they also make for an even better testing situation:
• Get a good night’s sleep. This is important every night!!!
• A good morning at home makes for a good morning at school.
• Eat a good healthy breakfast.
• Wear comfortable clothes.
• Talk to your students about the test in advance not just the week of the test. Remind them to give their best effort today and everyday. This test is important, but too much stress can be a problem also.
• Encourage your student to listen to the teacher for directions.
• Encourage your student to think positively – they can do this!!!
• Smile ☺ and tell a funny joke – laughing is good for everyone.

2017-2018 PTO - NBE needs YOU!
With Spring Break coming up next week, we are quickly nearing the end of the school year. As we do this, we must start looking to next year. We have had a great year with the PTO, but we desperately need more involvement next year. We are currently searching for:
* Vice President
* Secretary
* Walkathon (Glow Walk) Chairperson
* After-School Enrichment Chairperson
* Science Fair Chairperson
* 4th Grade Picnic Chairperson
* Bulldog Blast Co-Chairperson (we need several here)
* Mum Sale Chairperson
* Grant Proposal Chairperson
Most of these could use a couple of people chairing them. The more people we have to help, the smoother the year will go and the better the PTO will be!
If you are interested in any of these positions, please email Leslie at lesliezeisig@gmail.com.
