MESSY FUN AT CECC
There might not be anymore snow outside, but there was recently some "snow" in Ms. Dawna's class at CECC!
Preschool students had fun using shaving cream to practice their letters and numbers. As you can see, students LOVED this messy multi-sensory lesson.
To meet the needs of all learners, teachers oftentimes use a multi-sensory approach to teach the foundations of phonics and reading. A multi-sensory approach incorporates the learning styles for visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile learners.

TEACHERS RECEIVE RECOGNITION
Congratulations to Clinton Intermediate School teacher, Hallie Fairchild and Clinton High School teacher, 1SG Tom Collison who recently received awards and recognition from VFW Post 1894.
These awards are given to teachers who help instill a sense of national pride and patriotism in students.
SALUTING A SPECIAL GUEST READER
Airman Tony Tran from Whiteman Air Force Base recently visited Mrs. Vetsch's Clinton Middle School Reader’s Workshop class.
While there, he gave a “new voice” to the class' daily group read aloud and discussion. Students listened, read, and learned about three women’s experiences of getting lost in Death Valley via a passage journaling the women’s terrifying experience. Staff Sergeant Tran also shared his own personal experiences with Death Valley which truly made an impact on the students’ understanding and connection with the passage!
Staff Sergeant Tran was presented with a plaque of appreciation for his service to our country and partnership with the school. SStg Tran truly is appreciated for being part of our “Community of Champions”!

PROTECTING POTENTIAL
Thank you to our community partner, Schreiber Foods, for their generous donation of hard hats to the Clinton Technical School Building Trades program.
We appreciate our community partners who play a vital role in our students' success, especially in our Career and Technical Education programs. Thank you for supporting us as we prepare students for their futures!
LEAVING ON A JET PLANE
Congratulations to Clinton High School senior, Abby Chiles who is traveling to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the Honors Performance Series.
Abby auditioned for this opportunity last July, and after a review by the Honors Selection Board was accepted to perform. Acceptance to this elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in Abby's application and audition recording. Abby will join performers from all over the world for a special performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists will come together in New York City where they will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of the city. The Honors Performance will take place February 7-11.
Abby has studied music for seven years and is a member of the Cardinal Choraliers, where she is a section leader. She received a gold rating at districts last year and proceeded to state.
“I can’t wait to experience a life changing opportunity. I’m excited to learn so much through this program. I’m definitely going to use this experience to help me teach music in the future. I’m excited to represent my choir in this world-renowned experience.”

WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS
Winter is here, which means it's the perfect time to do a quick refresher on how the district communicates school closures due to inclement weather!
- SOCIAL MEDIA-The first notification you will receive about a school closure will come from our district's social media pages (Facebook and Instagram).
- TEXT, EMAIL, APP, AND PHONE-This will quickly be followed by a text message, email, app notification and phone call. The successful delivery of this information is dependent upon accurate contact information obtained from school records. If your contact information changes, please let your child's school office know as soon as possible. Only those who have opted-in to receive text messages (text Y to 67587 from the cell number the district has on file for you), or those who have downloaded the district app (search for Clinton School District on your App Store or Google Play) will receive the text message and app notification.
- WEBSITE-This information will also be placed on our district webpage, www.clintoncardinals.org.
- NEWS MEDIA-The cancellation info will also be provided to KDKD and Kansas City news stations.
AMI AND LATE START REMINDERS
ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF INSTRUCTION (AMI)
DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) allows school districts to implement Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plans on days that school is not able to be in session due to inclement weather. When school districts implement their AMI plan, the school hours lost due to closure do not have to be made up. For the remainder of the year, the district will most likely implement its AMI plans on days that school must be closed due to inclement weather. Below are the plans for each building:
CECC-Google Classroom or learning packets. Teachers will communicate expectations with parents.
Henry-Learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CIS-Learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CMS-Teachers will communicate with students the expectations or learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CHS-Google Classroom
CTS-Google Classroom
****Please note that the attendance of each student on an AMI day is based on their completion of assignments from their teachers. Assignments must be submitted the first day school is in session after an AMI day.****
2-HOUR LATE START INFORMATION
Please be aware that if the district chooses to have a late start due to weather conditions, all buildings will start 2 hours later than normal. Students riding the bus to school would be picked up 2 hours later than normal as well. Breakfast will not be served.
The following would be the start times for each building for a late start:
CHS/CTS-9:45 (doors open at 9:15)
CMS-9:45 (doors open at 9:25)
CIS-10:05 (doors open at 9:30)
Henry Elementary-10:10 (doors open at 9:30)
CECC-
- morning classes cancelled
- full day classes start at 10:00 (doors open at 9:55)
- 1/2 day afternoon classes regular schedule
If you should have any questions about any of the information above, please reach out to your child's school.
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The Cardinal Compliment program is a way for you to salute any Clinton School District employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you're a parent impressed with that special touch your child's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnesses a staff member’s commitment to kids - you can send a Cardinal Compliment!
Supervisors, including the superintendent, will see your submission. The employee will receive a certificate of gratitude and a token of appreciation that lets everyone know he or she was given a Cardinal Compliment.
Every month, Cardinal Compliment recipients will be listed on the district website and posted on the district Facebook page to let others know the names of the district's difference makers!
