Summer 2022
Free Gym Membership - Planet Fitness
Planet Fitness is inviting high schoolers ages 14-to-19 a chance to work out for free all summer long.
In a statement, the franchisor said the offer is part of an effort to give teenagers a chance to improve their mental and physical health. The program, dubbed High School Summer Pass, runs from May 16 through August 31.
Planet Fitness launched a similar program three years ago and saw more than 900,000 teens sign up and complete more than 5.5 million workouts over a three-and-a-half-month period, the company said in a news release. Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau said in a statement. "Our study found that nearly all (92 percent) high school students agreed that when they are regularly physically active, they feel much better mentally."
Starting Tuesday, high schoolers can pre-register on the company's website for a reminder.
What Happens When Your Child Turns 18?
Guardianship - is a court-ordered arrangement in which one person is given the legal authority to make decisions on behalf of another person whom the court has deemed to be incapacitated. You can obtain a limited guardianship where you can make decisions in only some specific areas like medical care or a general guardianship that has broad control and decision making authority over the individual.
Conservatorship - a conservator manages the finances (income and assets) of a person with a disability but has no power to make personal decisions such as medical care.
Power of Attorney - your child will need to appoint you as the authority to make decisions on his or her behalf under the agreed upon terms in the legal document.
The decision on how to handle difficult decisions can be discussed with your child's support coordinator or a family lawyer who will be able to provide more detailed information on each type of authority.

In addition, fun summer chores can include watering plants, weeding the garden or picking flowers! If you have a pool, your student could skim the pool for leaves and bugs.
So Much to Give
"So Much to Give" is a new group within Pillars of Light and Love. It is the initiative of Maureen Stanko, a 25+ year Methacton School District teacher and mother of Nicholas, who is in his late teens and struggles with autism and intellectual challenges. Maureen is excited to be coordinating and directing activities for this program at the Empowering U Center in Trappe.
The impetus for the creation of "So Much to Give" is the tremendous need for older teens and young adults, like Nick, to spend time with peers, engage in meaningful activities, and continue on a path of lifelong learning beyond high school. The primary mission of "So Much to Give" is to help young adults with disabilities to gain personal fulfillment by utilizing their unique gifts and talents to make a positive difference for others in the community. It seems that the group meets once a month on weekends with founder Maureen.
