RBHS BRIDGE Communication
Rock Bridge High School Newsletter October 27, 2020
Rock Bridge Families,
Remember that a Quarter in our 4x4 schedule is the same as a Semester in last year’s schedule. Each student will have completed half a credit for each course they are currently enrolled in as of November 2nd.
Quarter in 4x4 Schedule = Semester in Alternating 8 Block Schedule
Students who are currently enrolled in classes worth only 1/2 credit will need to check their schedule to see what new class they have for Quarter 2. Some common classes that will only meet for a single quarter are PE, Health, Personal Finance, most Business Classes, and most FACS Classes. On November 5th, students will be able to see their next class in Schoology. If you want to see it sooner, please check the Home Access Center.
Students, be sure you are aware of all required content for your classes. Remember, you should be checking into Schoology every school day and completing the work assigned by your teachers. Most of this work is practice that will prepare you for assessments. Assessments will make up the vast majority of your grade in any individual class.

Message From Dr. Rukstad
CPS High School Families,
We are nearing the end of the first grading period, R1. You will receive grade cards for your high school students. Please expect the following:
- If a student’s grade is an F at the end of R1, the teacher will report the grade as “NC” (no credit).
- Teachers will share the pathway for a student to regain credit for R1 with students who have an NC (formerly an F) in their course.
- Students will have a window of time between November 5 and December 1 to show evidence that they should now have credit for R1, using the process outlined by the teacher for the course.
- Students may reach out to teachers to ask for assistance. Students are encouraged to do so during Wednesday office hours and other modes outside of the regular class time. Teachers can check in with students throughout the November 5 to December 1 window.
- If the student successfully regains the credit by December 1, the grade on the grade card and the transcript will change from NC to P. This change will not have GPA implications.
- If the student does not regain the credit by December 1, the grade on the grade card and transcript will change from NC to F. The GPA will also be recalculated.

Tips for Students During Online Learing
- Sign in on time to all virtual sessions.
- Be ready to learn. Have yourself and all materials ready to go
- Come to teacher office hours 2-4 on Wednesday to ask clarifying questions. May need to parcel off time for each class on your schedule (30 min each) or prioritize which teacher you zoom with based on your own learning needs.
- Stay after class. Often when zoom/virtual sessions end, teachers remain on zoom to answer questions. Students, you might consider sending a private chat message to your teacher letting them know you want to meet after class.
- Check and respond to student email daily.
- Use device or planner to set reminders, due dates, test dates, etc.
- Email school counselor and/or teacher if you believe that having a tutor may help. They can help get you set up!
Tips for Parents During Online Learning
- Consider requesting the access code to your student’s schoology courses from their teachers if you believe your student needs more support than a device or planner will offer with meeting deadlines.
- Set up Schoology notifications so you can monitor your student’s activity on Schoology. Parents may elect to have two different notifications: A. a daily or weekly “digest” about their student’s work on Schoology and/or B. an overdue submission notification, where parents will receive an email if a student has NOT submitted an assignment on the due date. Here are the instructions parents can use to set up these notifications: Setting up Parent Notifications in Schoology
- Log into the Parent Portal to see grades.
- Check out this on-line resource for parents of teens to find parenting tips and expert advice at: https://www.parenteenconnect.org/
- Connect with the State of MO’s Department of Mental Health e-support. It’s a hub for resources, information, and connection to Crisis Counseling Programs in response to the COVID-19 impacts: https://www.moshowmehope.org/
- If local counseling or other resources are needed by your student and family members please contact FACE of Boone County: https://faceofboonecounty.org/
- Parent Link has been a longstanding organization in Columbia MO offering parenting education and support. They also offer an updated list of information and resources specific to Covid19. Remember to peruse their website at https://education.missouri.edu/parentlink/
School Pictures for 9th, 10th, and 11th Graders
Optional Senior Portrait Session
We will be holding an OPTIONAL Senior portrait session on November 4th from 2-6 in the RBHS Auxiliary Gym. This will be an opportunity for students to have pictures taken in advance of yearbook submissions for the senior section of the yearbook. This portrait session is OPTIONAL as RBHS Yearbook does accept personal senior portrait submissions, so seniors can still select their own portrait to be used in the yearbook. Students can submit their photos by emailing them to rockbridgeseniors@gmail.com. Families may contact Jacob Adams (JAdams@cpsk12.org) with questions about this event. For all students in grades 10-12, picture sessions have been scheduled in January.
We have created a sign up form at the link below. Students can sign up for a 15 minute time slot between 2PM and 6PM. Students will enter via the Main (East) entrance and be met by a staff member who will show them to the correct location. Students must sign up via this link in order to have pictures taken.
