Week of December 7-11

General News

  • Spanish 1 - After school Study Sessions to prepare for the SPANISH 1, Fall Semester Final Exam will be offered on: Friday, Dec. 4, Monday, December 7 and Tuesday, Dec. 8th.

Spanish Study sessions will be held in Ms. McGuire's room from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.

  • Operation Spirit - During the month of December you have two opportunities to benefit Wayside Inn Homeless Shelter. Bring in canned goods to your homeroom for Operation Spirit or participate in the Builders Club Angel Tree. To participate in the Angel Tree, simply choose an ornament off the tree in the Commons, buy that item, and then return the item to the box under the tree. Share the warmth and the spirit of the season by helping others in your community. All collections will end on December 18.

  • Winter Carnival - Each December, we hold a "carnival" for our students the day before winter break begins. We hold our Operation Spirit Convo. in the morning along with a fun activity for the students (usually a staff/student basketball or volleyball game) and then after lunch, the students have a choice between the dance/basketball ($4 cost), a movie in the auditorium, the library or the computer labs. The only stipulation that we make is that if a student receives a write-up between now and December 18, they will not be able to go to the afternoon festivities. Please reiterate this with your student that if they do something to get in trouble here at school between now and the carnival, they will not be able to participate.

  • Swim Lessons - The Jennings County Swim Club is having Guppies Registration: Wednesday, December 9th from 6:00 – 7:00 pm and Saturday, December 12th from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Jennings County Middle School Pool. The swim lessons will start January 4th – February 8th and will be on every Monday. The Guppies Group is designed for ages 3 years and up (must be out of diapers). This program was established to provide swim lessons for non-swimmers or swimmers needing to build some basic skills. New Swimmers are required to try out at registration and should be prepared with swim attire, birth certificate, and documentation for free and reduced lunch status (if applicable). The coaching staff will determine the placement/group that best suits the athlete’s needs at registration. This group will meet once a week for one hour of instruction. For more information visit our Facebook page, website at jcswim.org, or contact Deanna Jackson (812)-592-3236.

  • Zach Ferguson Fundraiser - Please support your former classmate, Zach Ferguson, who passed away. Wrist bands will be sold for $2.00 in the JCMS Bookstore and in the cafeteria during lunches. Please keep the memory of Zach alive by supporting this fundraiser. All proceeds will go to Zach's funeral expenses.

  • Student Christian Fellowship - will meet on 12/8 from 3:15- 4:30 for any student interested.

  • 7th Grade Math Tutoring - Struggling in math? Mrs. Ballenger will be available for tutoring and extra help every Thursday until 4:00pm.

  • Box Tops for Education - We are still collecting these!!!! Have your student turn them into their homeroom teacher. Each year the school receives a check for $500-700 from this program which funds many of the activities we do for students.

Crucial Information for ALL Parents!!!

Later this week the School Counseling office will be talking with students about the 21st Century Scholar Program. 21st Century Scholars is an opportunity through the State of Indiana which helps kids pay for tuition costs at Indiana colleges. It is available to kids based upon financial need. The catch is that kids have to sign up by the end of their 8th grade year. After that time, they are not allowed to enroll into the program. There is no obligation to applying for the program. If the student later decides they do not want to attend college, then the benefit just goes away. Therefore, we want to sign up as many of our kids as possible so that this awesome opportunity stays available to them. Applications are available in the School Counseling office or online at Scholars.IN.gov. Parents/guardians can submit their child’s application online or by returning the completed application to the JCMS School Counseling office. Please call 812-346-4940 for more information.
