FOCUS Updates
11/10/23
2nd Grade:
Next week we will continue to order and compare numbers using a number line and abstract base ten strategies. We will also work to add four two-digit numbers practicing our strategies of base ten models, number lines, and expanded form. When adding four two-digit numbers, it is important to be organized in work so careless errors are avoided. Problems will be embedded in real -life story problems.
4th Grade:
Next week we will continue our work with fractions. Students will use a variety of strategies to compare fractions, including visual models, number lines, benchmark fractions, and creating equivalent fractions with like denominators using the identity property (power of one). Students will have a progress grade on fractions on Friday, 11/17.
5th Grade FOCUS Math
Next week we move deeper into fractions. Students will learn to add and subtraction fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. We will focus on the strategies of area model and the traditional algorithm. In the algorithm, students will use common denominators to create equivalent fractions/mixed numbers with like denominators. Most of our work will be embedded in real life story problems.
