Notes from Choir
Halloween and Brrrrrr......
Week 3 brought Halloween and cold weather and.... choreography!!! All groups started choreography this week. Get ready to be entertained! Both Treble Tones and Chorale also got an additional piece of music since they are flying through their current pieces. (These kids are some smart cookies!) They know that if we get it ready before December 11th, great... if not, that's fine too. It's nice to have something different to work on as we are polishing the pieces that we have been singing since early September.
We learned about Leger Lines this week and the kids are doing pretty well! This is one of our trickier units and we will spend 2 weeks on it. Remember- students are ALWAYS welcome to see Jesse during class or come in during Flex Time to get help. Some students have taken advantage of this and received the help they need. Bravo!
Halloween Candy
We will take your extra and unwanted Halloween candy for our infamous "Treat Drawer." Kids who donate their candy will receive a First Class ticket. Last year, donated candy sustained us for the ENTIRE school year! We love using food as a motivator. :)
Congrats to our November Students of the Month!
Class Discussion
Today turned in to being a day of class discussions in Treble Tones and Chorale. It was not my lesson plan, but it ended up being a very enlightening day for me and hopefully for the kids too. Recently, I have had some discussions with several choir students about being judged by their peers. This fear of judgement holds them back from being their best selves. I put the following challenge on the whiteboard and it took a turn into a class discussion. Pretty mature of these young people to be able to talk about navigating their teenage years with an entire class of peers and ME (the resident old person). I thought it was an awesome discussion about being our authentic selves, catch ourselves when we find ourselves judging another person, having empathy and being KIND.
You are more mature when you:
*judge less
*forgive more
*respect differences
*become more open minded
*prefer silence over unnecessary arguments
*find happiness within yourself
*care for others
*want deeper than superficial relationships.
