Dear Kindergarten Families!
Happy day to you!
Have you been witness to the blossoming of the readers in our classroom?! SO VERY IMPRESSED!!! You all should be receiving books in your students backpacks. These books are to be read to you BY your student. When THEY read to you, they will bring them back to me the next day for a sticker! Each book builds on the previous books phonetic skills. They biggest challenge they have is comprehending what they read! Many students can decode(read) a word but then often it takes a moment to click what that word means! In order for them to advance to the next book, they need to answer all the questions in the back of the books without your help! Please do not read these books to your child, They are easy to memorize and memorizing what you read will not serve your child. But please celebrate every single accomplishment they make when they read! So great!
Decodable Books
Decodable books have a singular focus on one particular phonics pattern while leveled books combine specific phonetic patterns, sentence, fluency, and vocabulary in a particular text. These components are measured to determine the level of difficulty of reading, which results in the determination of the text level. Students can read decodable books on their own, or to their families ;), to practice a specific phonics pattern or word family they have previously been taught through direct instruction.
A HUGE thank you to the parents that have volunteered this week to listen you your child read to them. It is so important for a child to not feel rushed when they are reaching or feel compelled to rush if their group members are reading at a faster rate. Because of their gift of their time, all children received 1:1 time to read their book. So grateful!
Writers Workshop!
We had a fantastic PD day on Thursday talking about Writers Workshop and what that looks like in all grades! The biggest takeaway for me was to address the students as "writers" , just as I address them as "readers". Creating that mindset has been a huge factor in how we go about our school day. What Writers Workshop looks like right now in Kinder is that I give them a daily writing prompt and they finish the sentence in their own words with an accompanying picture. I hope you take a peek and see what they said after the prompt, "My family is really good at.... because...."
Parent-Teacher Conference Week

If you would like to be added to our weekly volunteer email list, please let me know! This email goes out on Sundays and sets the schedule for the week. If you sign up for a time, please make every effort to attend as I plan extra Project Work activities around your volunteer time. Thank you!
I need volunteers for:

New painted rocks have been added to our Labyrinth thanks to Allyson facilitating this rotation! Please take a peek at your students recent addition to the space. Also take a peek at the FB photos to see more of their work!
Please check out this Month's photos. Upload any that you took!
I upload photos each week. Volunteers please upload your photo's too!
Thank you to those that have donated to our class funds!
Please consider making a one-time or monthly donation to our class funds. All donations go directly towards the benefit of your child this school year. A monthly contribution of just $5 equals $50 over the school year!
Even greater amounts go towards purchasing manipulatives that your child uses daily. Like the class ramps, the wooden balls, the Magnatiles, the pens, paper, glue, and eventually hot glue, canvas for self-portraits, and new library books, and possible Field Trips.
Please make sure to designate Ms. Savonia's class, when you donate!
THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!
Playdate Roster
This playdate roster is to be used for contacting parents for playdates only. The playdate roster should be used solely for organizing playdates and not for addressing incidents on the school playground involving other children. If you feel there was any incident on our school playground regarding another child in our class, please contact me first prior to reaching out to any parent.
