Volume 1 ~ Issue 5 ~ Week of August 14, 2022
Message from the Principal
This week is our fifth week of school and I am looking forward to our Vikings making better decisions. The past few weeks, we have had a few incidents where students were not making good choices. When these choices affect the safety or wellbeing of other students or staff on this campus, it becomes a serious concern of mine. This includes, but is not limited to, cyberbullying, in-person bullying, and fighting. I want to make sure that everyone understands that there will be zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. If and when it is brought to our attention, administration will diligently pursue holding students accountable for their actions. Parents, I ask for your support in helping us keep this campus a place where all students feel welcome and comfortable. You can do this by:
- Having a conversation with your child about how words can be hurtful and the decisions they make have lasting impact, whether in-person or on social media.
- Checking their social media accounts frequently to ensure they are not posting inappropriate content.
- Asking them where they are going after school and who they are going with to ensure they are not getting themselves into trouble.
- Encourage your child to be an upstander, not a bystander! Stand up to bullying instead of participating or ignoring it. Click HERE to watch a video with your child about bullying.
Together, if we work as a team, we can ensure that Mar Vista Academy is a safe place for all!
Thank you to the parents who logged into Open House on Thursday, August 11th! If you missed it, you can watch the general session HERE and reach out to your child's teachers for more info on their particular class. There was not nearly enough time for me to share all of the great things we are doing here at MVA, so I hope that you join me at our first Coffee with the Principal on September 1st! More info to come, but for now, save the date!
We ended the week with a celebration of Viking Day! Each period, students learned about each component of the Viking Code. Students learned the characteristics of being versatile, inquisitive, kind, interactive, never giving up, being gutsy, and synergetic. We continued the celebration at lunch with games and activities, then ended the day with a Viking Rally where students and teachers competed in a balloon popping activity! A great time was had by all!
Wishing you a great Week 5, Vikings!
Take care,
Ms. Scott
Our Viking, Mr. Seibel, popped into classes to reward students with yummy treats for completing class activities!

This means that your children will be able to eat one (1) free breakfast and lunch every day. Although meals are free, we ask that you still complete this form HERE as it helps to provide the school with additional funding.
On Wednesday, July 20th, your student received the MVA Welcome Packet that included a hard copy of the Alternative Household Income Data Form in their Advisory class. If you have not done so already, please have your student return the completed form to their Advisory teacher. You may also enter this information directly to the Campus Parent portal at Infinite Campus. Please refer to the guide at http://mva.sweetwaterschools.org/parents/ on how to enter the information online. Thank you for your support!
