Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term 1 - Issue 5
We BELIEVE, so TOGETHER we ACHIEVE!
A word from Mr Broom.
I can't believe we're now only two weeks away from the half term holidays and a sixth of the year has already passed. I spent a day this week meeting my local headteacher colleagues, listening to some of the outstanding practice around us and to be frank, pinching ideas! I also met with North Yorkshire Building Services who came to discuss the initial proposals for a possible extension of our school. It's at the very beginning of the journey but the proposals are very exciting. When I know more, I'll let you know.
School also had a visit from the Health & Safety advisor who confirmed that our routines for safeguarding children are all in order and up to date. Finally, I put together our new staff safeguarding noticeboard in the staffroom, providing our team with all the latest information about keeping children safe.
Meanwhile, it's been business as usual in school with many exciting lessons and experiences had by all. On Wednesday evening, Miss Mackay introduced the teaching staff to the new 'essentials' curriculum and the planning format they will be following. This new approach places an emphasis on teaching the key skills of reading, writing and mathematics through creative and exciting activities. The teachers are looking forward to teaching for mastery.
Finally, we have Sherburn Camera Club coming into school on Monday to take some snaps for our new school website which is due to launch at the end of the month.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Superstars of the Week
Harvest Festival
A slight change this year is that we've asked the children where they would like the donations to go, and we're very thankful to Sherburn Methodist Church who have arranged for the items to be donated to the Selby Foodbank and the York ARC Light Project.
If you would like to contribute to our Harvest Festival produce display, please bring any dried/tinned food into school on Monday 16th or Tuesday 17th October. If you would like to donate fresh fruit and vegetables, please bring these in on the morning of Wednesday 18th October.

Parent Governor Vacancy
The role of a parent governor is to be a critical friend of the school. Our current governing body has a wide skills set ranging from finance to safeguarding and HR. If you think your skills set would make us stronger, please apply by Friday 20th October.

Books from the Book Trust
