The Dragons were fortunate enough to have two athletes compete in the meet. Kobe Yepez ran in the 1600 meters run while Ryan O'Keefe ran the 100 meter dash.
Kobe finished his high school career in track by competing in the fastest 1600 meters at the 2019 State Meet. Although he did not finish where he wanted to, he left nothing on the track. Kobe will run for the University of Texas in their distance program beginning next year.
Ryan O'Keefe placed 4th in the 100 meter dash. This was one of the more publicized events of the meet. He ran against the fastest high school athlete in the U.S. Matthew Boling who had recorded a 9.98 at the Regional Meet. Needless to say finishing 4th against a future Olympic athlete is a fantastic effort. Ryan will take his talents to University of Central Florida and play football for the Knights.
It is my pleasure to announce that the Dragon Track and Field Team had four Seniors who were selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All State Team. J.T. Schmidt and Tyler Duke were 1st team selections while Kevin Silva, and Andrew Fanous were second team selections. The criteria included GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and class rank.
Please take the time to watch the final event of the 2019 UIL State Meet. I posted the video at the bottom I have never seen anything like it...
