PTA NEWS FLASH
Indian Knoll Elementary
Letter from the Principal
Firebird Families,
Spring is in the air and we have a full calendar of exciting events planned for our Firebirds! In March, we are focusing on reading and math initiatives and have a variety of activities planned. Look for Tweets featuring our great academic activities #CCSDReadLikeARockStar #CCSDMathMadness2020 On March 6th, we will celebrate Read Across America with the Rep Tour Improv Group and “Dress Like a Book Character” day. We will also send home a March reading challenge that can be exchanged for a free ice cream in the cafeteria. On Friday March 27th, we will have a PJ Day with a “drop everything and read” event- stuffed animals welcome! We will also host our IKES Book Fair starting on March 27nd and hope you can visit us this spring.
Our students are thriving academically and are busy with a variety of clubs. We will be cheering on our Science Olympiad Team and our Techno Wizards as they compete for district/state titles soon. On March 20th, we will host our 3rd quarter House Assembly and honor students with excellent attendance and exemplary behavior. Who will win our PBIS Carnival party this quarter?
Once again, thank you for your volunteer efforts and commitment to partner with IKES to provide your child with the most fulfilling educational opportunities possible. We value the strong teamwork and appreciate all our stakeholders for their contributions to Indian Knoll.
Thanks,
Kim Cerasoli
Principal
Spotlight on Kindness - Waverly Carter
Every so often, we all have a less than "great" day! Many times, we are the only ones who know how bad the day truly was. Sometimes, though, a special person will notice and go out of their way to make sure that something positive comes from that day. One day last month, when a classmate had a sad day, that person was Kindergartner, Waverly Carter. Waverly noticed a classmate whose day didn't go well and decided to take matters into her own hands. She went home and took the time to make a heartfelt card for that student. Way to go, Waverly! Thank you for being an ambassador of kindness! The world is a better place with you!
Help us spread some love by sharing wonderful acts of kindness that you do or experience! Let's celebrate compassion together and inspire each other to pay it forward! Please send pictures or stories of your acts of kindness to nchambley.ikespta@gmail.com.

February Employee of the Month - Mrs. Jennifer Lewis
"Congratulations to our Employee of the Month for February 2020, Jennifer Lewis. Jennifer is more than a Media Specialist at Indian Knoll ES. She is a skilled and creative educator who creates an environment where children love to visit and learn. The media center at IKES is fully furnished with new furniture, a wealth of technology, a maker’s station, hands-on learning activities, and an updated book library. Jennifer is also involved in a variety of student clubs, teacher committees and produces our Firebird News every morning. She is certainly a valued teacher leader within the school. Under her leadership, our IKES Reading Bowl won first place for the district this year! In addition, Mrs. Lewis was recently excited to find out that she received a grant from Microsoft that will be funding her entire trip to Anaheim, California to present at the ISTE Conference and Expo this summer. We are thankful for her schoolwide involvement and are thrilled to honor her. Jennifer received a $20 Woodstock Downtown Bucks gift certificate from The Premier Group at Keller Williams, as well as additional goodies from our IKES PTA." - Kim Cerasoli, Principal, Indian Knoll Elementary School

It's Time for Penny Wars!
Penny Wars is a school wide competition between our six birdhouses. Each house is trying to collect the most money in order to be the reigning school champion. 50% of money collected will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the other 50% will be put back into our school.
- Collect all of the PENNIES you can put your hands on. Pennies are worth 1 POSITIVE point!
- Bring in nickels, dimes, and quarters to put in OTHER birdhouse jars as these count as NEGATIVE points!
- Paper money can be collected as POSITIVE points for your child's birdhouse also.
- $1 Bill = Positive 100 Points, $5 Bill = Positive 500 Points, etc.
Each birdhouse will have its own jar. Money will be collected and counted each day! The birdhouse with the most points at the end of the week will be named the PENNY WARS CHAMPION! As an extra incentive, DOJO points will be awarded as follows:
- 1st Place House: 750 Dojo Points
- 2nd Place House: 500 Dojo Points
- 3rd Place House: 350 Dojo Points
- 4th Place House: 250 Dojo Points
- 5th Place House: 150 Dojo Points
- 6th Place House: 100 Dojo Points
This battle is fierce and intense and will need manpower! Volunteers are needed each morning from 7:00 to 7:50 a.m. to help our younger students find their house container. If you are able to help man the jars a morning or two, we would love and appreciate your help. Please find the sign up link below:
