STEM NEWS AND HELP NEEDED
ITS ROLLERCOASTER MANIA AT SMS
Our kids are working so hard on their roller coasters for the Engineering Fair coming up soon.
1. We are collecting cardboard pieces for students to use as the base to hold their rollercoasters. Pieces cannot be larger than 3 ft by 3 ft. Cardboard can be taken to the MakerSpace. We ask that boxes be broken down please. Please send in all you can .. Amazon boxes are great!
2. Engineer Fair: On March 16th at Stanley Middle School, we are holding a Roller Coaster Engineer Fair. If you know any engineers that would like to judge, please let us know. They can complete the Google Form at: bit.ly/rollercoasterjudge
3. Donations of tape are being accepted. Duct tape, packaging tape, masking tape, etc.... This tape can be taken to the MakerSpace.
PTO REMINDERS
The fast pass lane in the afternoon is reserved for parents who have won the fast pass drawing. After 3:40 it can be used for general traffic.
Students attending home ballgames are able to purchases SMS spirit wear at the concessions stand.

Reminders/Updates
Students who live in the EG feeder district and want to be in the Academy at East Gaston - must apply
Students who are at SMS through the lottery or via Hawks Nest will automatically be assigned to the Academy at East Gaston and do not need to apply.
Students who are at SMS through the lottery or via Hawks Nest are not able to attend East Gaston without being in the Academy. The only option is to apply for a general transfer but that is NOT a guaranteed placement at EG.
Students who are at SMS through the lottery or via Hawks Nest and want to return to their home school will need to complete the registration process at their home school after school ends for the school year.
Any student wanting to attend Highland, Early College, Early Medical College, Forestview, Ashbrook, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Hunter Huss or the Virtual Academy MUST complete the choice application.

HELP US REWARD STUDENTS AND STAFF - NEW ITEMS ADDED
We will continue to update the list quarterly as we see what become the hot items. This week, students and staff loved mystery grab bags which contained several prizes.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Students staying for after school events must be picked up NO LATER than 15 minutes after the event ends in order to continue attending activities after school.

Cell Phone/Wireless Devices Policy Reminder
Therefore, the expectation is that if parents allow students to bring phones to school that they remain in their bookbag, OFF and AWAY, from the time they arrive at school until they leave at the end of the day. Students with communicati9on devices on watches are not to use communication devices during the school day.
