The Week at a Glance
Weekly Concept: Protect Our Earth
Essential Question: What ideas can you suggest to protect the environment?
Next week our class will be reading stories about the ways we can protect our environment. Children will learn about endangered animals and the ways we can help protect animals in their habitats.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
Vocabulary: environment, protect
Discuss ways your child can help to protect the environment, such as reducing, reusing, and recycling resources.
My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: help, too, play, has, where, look, who, good, come, does
Write sentences that include each of the review words. Have your child underline each review word.
Category Words: names of baby animals
Gather stuffed animals, animal toys, or animal books. Point to and identify the name of each animal, and then state the corresponding baby animal’s name.
Phonics: long a, e, i, o, u
Create a five-column table on paper. At the top of the table, write the vowels a, e, i, o, and u. Say a word with a long vowel sound. Have your child point to the column where the word belongs. Then write the words in the corresponding columns.
mClass EOY Assessments
I have spent the past two weeks conducting extensive reading assessments with the KinderKids. I cannot even begin to tell you how very rewarding this is as their teacher. I've taught many grade levels during my career, but none as rewarding as this. Hearing children read fluently for the very first time is an amazing thing!!!!! I know you've played a crucial role in this and I thank you. In today's folder you'll find detailed information on your child's reading progress. Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have questions or concerns about his information.
Grandparents Day
Thursday's kindergarten Grandparents Day was an astounding success. You would've been so proud of your child. Their singing, reciting, and reading was fabulous and the pride in the grandparents' eyes was simply more than apparent. Thank you for the role that you played in seeing that your child was well-prepared for this day.
Bowling Night
The LES PTO is sponsoring a bowling night during the evening of May 11. Please review the information that was sent in today's Friday folder for a family fun night of bowling.
The Corner Market
The Corner Market will be open Tuesday, May 9th from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Union County High School. The Corner Market will be closed for summer break. Please take advantage of the local community programs. The Corner Market will resume August 8th.

LES will be hosting its final BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) Book Fair during the week of May 15. Our classes will be visiting during our regulary scheduled library times on Monday, May 15 and again on Thursday, May 18. This is an excellent opportunity for you to stock your child's bookshelves with quality summer reading. Look for additional information to sent home in the future.
