Welcome to 2021/22 school year from the #PennPTA!
On behalf of the Friends of Penngrove PTA board, welcome to the new school year! We hope everyone is getting in the swing of things and enjoying the first month of having our #PennPanthers on campus! I am excited to connect with you during the year at a PTA meeting, a family fun night or campus event. We are planning a lot of opportunities for community building this year. Stay tuned for future announcements in the Press throughout the year.
This afternoon my daughter and I were dropping off extra student supply kit items (thank you to everyone for supporting that program!). A friendly staff member asked Cambrie what grade she was in. She couldn’t quite believe she is in 5th grade already. Time flies.
As a family closer to the tail end of our elementary school experience, I am beginning to prepare for the next steps in my child's education. I need to start now, otherwise, I won’t be mentally ready for 365 Adobe to not be a part of our daily lives. Penngrove is such a special campus. From the rainbow steps, to positive affirmation signs in the hallways, to Penngrove in Motion routines, to cheerful dedicated staff to every smile and connection in between.
I often think about my elementary school in comparison to my daughters. The Principal at my Santa Rosa school was the exact opposite of Mrs. Fadeji. And the staff members were equally as different. I loved school, but if I attended a school like Penngrove I probably would have chosen teaching as a profession.
Our students are so fortunate to attend a campus that supports them as individuals and that has a strong community culture. Part of that community strength is having involved families. Being involved does not mean you have to be on the PTA board (although that would be amazing too!). But, to me, being involved means being plugged in.
Reading the Penngrove Press and the teacher newsletters. Asking questions about your student's day. I find that direct questions yield better answers than the standard “How was your day?” which always seems to be answered with “Fine.” My favorites are ”What was something funny that happened today?” and “Did someone have a snack that looked good for us to try?” Being plugged in means trying your best not to miss deadlines and attending conferences. Getting excited about school at home so your student is excited to go to school the next day. Volunteering as your schedule allows in the classroom or for PTA events. Spending a weekly lunch break mentoring a student through the MentorMe program. And, most importantly, loving on your students and enjoying every moment of their elementary school experience. Those moments quickly add up to years and soon, you will be in disbelief that there is only one more ‘first day of school photo’ at Penngrove.
It takes a village to support our #PennPanthers. I am proud to be a Penngrove family and a member of the PennVillage.

Goodbye Mrs. Fadeji, Hello Mrs. Rudder!
For those of you who may not know Mrs. Rudder, she has been our interim principal twice before. She has worked at many different schools in Petaluma City Schools over the years in a variety of positions, and she adores the Penngrove community! This summer, Mrs. Rudder spent a great deal of time picking fruit and sharing her backyard farm bounty of apricots, plums, peaches, and Gravenstein apples, all planted by her beloved late husband, Rick. A couple of weeks ago, I witnessed Mrs. Rudder (the oldest member of our admin team) climb 48 feet up a redwood tree and zip line through the canopy!!! It was so inspiring! Mrs. Rudder loves being outdoors, walking with friends and her two dogs. She is her happiest when she is surrounded by family which includes her own kids and her 5 grandchildren.
Mrs. Rudder recently shared with me that she is very happy to be back at Penngrove with such an incredible team of educators, staff, and families, all with the common goal of supporting our students.
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Rudder to Penngrove and I'll see you all in January of 2022! I'll miss your sweet #pennpanthers!
P.S. Tomorrow is the first day of preschool! Wish me luck! For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, read my post from last week.
Attention 1st -6th grade families:
Please note that effective immediately our on campus morning routine is changing slightly. This does NOT impact when students are allowed on campus (8am) but it does impact what they will be doing prior to school starting.
8 - 8:10 Students read quietly outside their classrooms
8:10 Teachers open classroom doors
8:20 Instruction begins
8:21 Students are tardy
This change does not impact TK/K schedules.
Thanks so much for your continued flexibility!
Crosswalk Chaos. Be Better.
However, there are a lot of unsafe traffic moves happening in our crosswalk areas and it's not representative of our Penngrove community values to be kind, respectful and responsible.
Please be more cautious when driving near or in the crosswalks, especially at the 4 way light of Adobe and Main Street. Do not block the crosswalk. Do not creep into the crosswalk when pedestrians are walking. Do not be a distracted or unkind driver. Do not be rude to our amazing crossing guards who are present to keep students safe.
Let's be better Penngrove.

Students in the PCS Online Independent Study Program receive both synchronous and asynchronous instruction, Monday through Friday; however, students will complete most assignments independently. This program is designed to provide rigorous high-quality instruction.
Additionally, students will have the option to participate in on-campus events at the school that is associated with their Online Independent Study Program (see the list below).
The Online Independent Study Program will be associated with the following schools:
- TK-6: Valley Vista
- 7-8: Petaluma Jr. High
