The following message from Nurse Jones is only for students who need medication during the school day.
Here are the 2016-17 medical forms that you may need for your child.
PPA = Medication Order. Bring this with the medication that is brought to the clinic.
All other forms are for specific medical diagnoses. You should fill out the demographic information on your child with contact numbers, etc. and have the doctor complete the PPA (Medical Order). You, the parent, and I will complete the rest of the information.
I hope that this is helpful to you for the school year.
Sign up for our school-wide Remind group this year if you want to stay connected more to what's going on at HGHS. The target group will be our students, but we would love to have our parents and community stay connected with us also.

The 14th Annual MOWW Huntsville Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) will be held November 2-5 at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. This YLC is one of 24 multi-day MOWW YLCs nationwide to promote patriotism, good citizenship, service to country, leadership, and free enterprise and is an opportunity for high school students to interact with experienced professionals in business, industry, and government. This program is on the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for each of this YLC’s 14 years and a copy of the current annual seal is at the MOWW Website.
We are expecting up to 78 first-time students to participate. Up to 50 students from North Alabama are funded through local corporate and private donations and there is no cost to the school or students. Based on relative student population of the schools invited, your school has an allocation of one (1) first-round slot until 9/23/2016. Slots remaining unfilled after that date become slots at large and will be filled on a first received basis of completed applications for eligible students until 10/21/2016.
Selection is by the school and validated by MOWW. Selected students should meet the following participant criteria as listed at our website huntsville-moww.org and summarized below:
- Be a sophomore or junior who has not previously participated in a multi-day MOWW YLC
- Has a GPA of 2.8 or higher and is active in school/community activities
- Be recommended by a school official (i.e., principal, guidance counselor or JROTC instructor)
- Be available and committed to attending the entire YLC -- 11/2/2016, 4:00 PM to 11/5/2016, 1:00 PM
- Be capable of light exercise
- Not require special accommodations/assistance
The Military Order of World Wars (MOWW) is a veterans’ organization and supports JROTC, but MOWW YLCs are open to non-cadets and cadets. The overall participant mix target is half non-cadets and half cadets.
We have recruited and are recruiting previous MOWW YLC students having a GPA above 3.2 to serve as the YLC 2016 Staff. We are preparing and training the staff on Sundays, which started July 24th for the top twelve positions and will finish the end of October. We have some staff positions yet to fill. There is no cost to the school nor students serving as staff and the positions do not count against school allocation for first-time students. Staff member selection is by MOWW with concurrence from the school by a recommending school official.
More YLC information, including student application forms and mailing instructions has been available at our website huntsville-moww.org and will be again after we recover from our current website crashing. In the meantime, we are providing the YLC Website content, including student application forms, via a Dropbox folder shared by link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rug4aw9gs205vpq/AABa5B8D5VVmwrdRvRi35sUNa?dl=0. If you need more information, you can contact David Dunlap at (256) 651-1983 or dunlapdl@aol.com or Mr. Dick Pendleton (LTC, USA retired) at (256) 497-8434 or catsailor09@yahoo.com.
