Balloons for the Last 10 Days of the School Year!
Saturday, May 14, 2016 - General News
Well, here we are, two weeks left of 2nd grade for this wonderful class! As I look back on this school year and reflect, I am filled with gratitude for this position where I may help guide students such as this super group of children, in their educational journey to becoming lifelong learners. We not only worked on Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science, but also extended your teachings of how to become contributing, problem solving, and empathetic members of society. I have truly enjoyed working and learning with your children this year. Thank you for your partnership!
***As you can see above, the last 10 days of school balloons are in place! Each day we will pop a balloon to discover what the next day's theme or activity will be. Friday we had "Math with Chalk Day", Monday will be "Dress and Talk Like a Pirate Day"! I will send home reminders the day before an activity or theme, if any home preparation is needed. All of the balloon activities will be surprises to the students; however, I will send you an email (for your eyes only!!), letting you know the schedule.***
- Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring the Fun Fair! It was a lot of fun to participate in and it looked like the children had a blast too!!
PBIS (Friday) Universal Incentives: Your child can earn this reward each Friday for the next five weeks by having no office referrals during the week and by obtaining 80% positives on our Class Dojo for the week. The students will enjoy popcorn and 20 minutes of the Disney movie, each Friday. There will not be any drinks served during the movie, so please be sure that your child has a water bottle on Fridays. No soda or other drinks will be allowed.
The ABC End of Year Countdown continues! Please see below for this weeks themes/activities. Please note that the fun activities are earned and celebrate super behavior.
Below are some wonderful web based resources (educational games) for your child.
Also, check out our 2nd Grade Google page, where you can find what we're doing in class (curriculum), homework, MORE pictures and what's coming up! Check them out!!

Reading
For reading we practiced comparing and contrasting different stories. We also continued our Fairy Tale unit with "You Read To Me and I'll Read to You" stories made from fairy tales. I will post the students reading these short reader's theater pieces before the end of the school year. For nonfiction, we began reading about cultures around the world. The students went to Pebble Go for fact finding about people around the world. This was the preview for the country research they will be beginning this week.

We continued identifying and using homographs, homophones, synonyms, and antonyms.

We finished various Mother's Day pieces (I hope you enjoyed all of their creativity!). We are beginning our research and writing about different countries.
