Welcome Back to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Dear York Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! All of us at York Avenue Elementary are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. We look forward to working with you and your child this year as a school team!
Our building doors will open at 9:00 AM for students to enter. Only students will be permitted to enter, however, we will have all of our staff members welcoming them and helping them find their classrooms on the first day of school.
As Principal of York, it is important to me that everyone in our school community feels connected to our school and that York Avenue is a positive, kind, and caring place for our students, staff and families. In order to continue to build positive relationships, please join us on September 14 for our Back to School Night at 6:30 PM. At this event, you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and learn about the upcoming school year. Please also join us on September 21 at 6:30 PM for our first Home and School Meeting of the school year.
The wonderful York Avenue staff and I feel privileged to be part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to a great school year.
We can't wait to see our students tomorrow, Monday, August 30, 2021, for the first day of school!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
School Day - 9:10-3:40
Entering the Building
Students enter the school at 9:00 AM. Please say your goodbyes outside, so teachers can help them adjust to their new daily routines and get started with their school day. Students are marked late after 9:10.
Please remind your child to enter through the appropriate door:
Bus riders: Door 3, corner door
Kindergarten: Door 5, on Mitchell Avenue
1st & 6th grade: Door 1, main entrance
2nd & 3rd grade: Door 2, next to main entrance
4th & 5th grade: Door 3, corner door
Exiting the Building
Kindergarten exits through the Kindergarten Door (Door 5).
Grades 1-6 exit out the main entrance.
It is important for all students to sit in their assigned bus seat.
Students must remain facing forward throughout the bus ride.
Car Line (AM & PM)
There will be four orange cones placed on the curb outside of the main doors. The cones will be spaced 1 car length apart. Please pull your vehicle up to the curb alongside the next orange cone in the lineup and allow the child(ren) to exit and enter the vehicle on the passenger side.
Once the children have safely exited the vehicle, please continue to move forward with the car line. Keeping safety in mind, please do not go around vehicles in front of you and do not attempt to back up your vehicle.
As the space in front of the cones becomes available, the next set of vehicles will pull forward and drop off or pick up their child(ren).
When in the car line, please practice patience. Parents should not exit their vehicle for any reason as we need to keep the car line moving. Staff members will be available to assist the students with their backpacks or any other item they need to get in and out of the vehicle.
Parking For Arrival and Dismissal
If you park across the street, please exit your vehicle and wait for your child on school property.
Please cross the street, at a corner, to return to your car.
Please be careful when pulling out of your parking spot and watch for other vehicles and our walkers.
Riding a Bike To and From School
Students in grades 3-6 may ride a bike with a signed consent form provided by the school.
With safety for students being a top priority, students must wear a helmet.
Important Information Regarding Masks
Masks must be worn by students, staff and visitors inside of all North Penn School District buildings, per the NPSD Health and Safety Plan. This change comes as the North Penn community is now in its second straight week of substantial transmission rates of COVID-19. Masks remain optional outside. You can view Masking Requirements here.
Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this important matter.
