Friday Family Message, April 22, 2022 (Repeat)
Hello Families,
As a celebration of our return to more “normal” schooling, I wanted to share this photo from Stanwood Middle School’s choir concert last week. It was a joy to have students, families, and staff present for a concert.
This coming week, another beloved tradition returns, the Stanwood High School plant sale. The horticulture classes are ready to sell the beautiful plants they have grown in the new greenhouses. The sale at SHS will be open from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and from 10 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays, starting April 27. Read more about the horticulture program in this week’s Stanwood Camano News.
Administrative Professionals Week, April 25-29
This week is dedicated to secretaries and administrative professionals in recognition of their contributions to our district. Please take a moment in the coming week to thank these staff members for their service to our students and families. We are truly grateful for everything they do.
COVID-19 Vaccines Not Required for Students in Fall of 2022
The State Board of Health (SBOH), which determines immunization requirements for students in all of Washington’s K-12 schools, voted to not require students to be vaccinated against COVID-19 for school attendance. This information has been communicated to school districts across the state and this vaccination will not be required for any students in the fall.
Replacement Levy - remember to vote by Tuesday, April 26
Schools in Washington state receive funding primarily in three ways: state funds based on student enrollment, federal funds for special programs, and levies/bonds. The $10.3 million in revenues from the proposed Replacement Capital Projects and Technology Levy would fund technology updates, upgrades, and maintenance for our students and staff. The levy will also ensure we maintain our schools’ roofs, fire safety systems, playground equipment, and boilers.
Please click HERE to watch the video on our YouTube channel to learn more about how this levy impacts the education of our students at every level and maintains our facilities to serve them and our community. Please return your ballot by mail postage-free or use the convenient drop boxes near the Stanwood Library, at 9701 271st St NW for Snohomish County voters, and the Island County Administration Building at 121 N East Camano Drive on Camano Island for Island County voters. For complete information about the levy, visit www.stanwood.wednet.edu/levy.
Financial Stewardship Award
The district has been notified that it will receive a Stewardship Award from the Office of the Washington State Auditor (SAO) in recognition of its outstanding performance on state audits and commitment to safeguarding public resources.
The State Auditor’s Stewardship Award (SASA) is an award given to a governmental entity that has consistently demonstrated exemplary fiscal responsibility, clean audits, and strong stewardship of public funds.
Washington State Auditor Pat McCarthy will present the award at the School Board regular meeting on Tuesday, May 3.
This prestigious award recognizes our commitment to solid and ethical budgetary practices. While this award highlights the work of our district office finance team, it would not be possible without significant support from central office support staff, school office managers, school staff, and many others.
The SAO audits the district annually and has consistently found the district to be fully in compliance with applicable requirements with no findings. In giving this award, it cited the district’s transparency, especially concerning communication during the audit process.
Respectfully,
Deborah Rumbaugh, Ed.D.
Superintendent
