The peanut butter drive has been very successful! All donations must be dropped off by 9/28 for pick up. Thank you! (See Miss Buaas's note below for more details).
Puster Families,
It has been a fantastic week! The weather has been a refreshing treat allowing us to run our normal schedules and get outside and PLAY!
Tomorrow our 3rd and 4th graders show off their talents. I'm always amazed at the bravery of all of our students who choose to get up on stage in front of their peers and even more amazed by all of their unique talents! If you plan to attend, you have the option of signing up for a Fast Pass for a speedier check-in. Please see details below.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Puster Proud,
Holly
MAP Growth Testing Update
MAP Growth testing will be completed at the end of this week. We are looking forward to using the information it provides to meet the needs of our students. On October 4th, we will send home the MAP Growth Family Report with each student. This report will provide you with information about your child’s performance on the assessment. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or campus administrator. You may also find helpful information in the MAP Growth Parent FAQ.
If you have previously checked in at Puster via the Raptor system, you are eligible to sign up for a Fast Pass for events on campus. A Fast Pass allows you to sign in prior to the day of the vent and have your visitor badge waiting for you, bypassing the long check-in line at the front desk. Again, you must have signed in via Raptor at some point this school year to be eligible.
This Friday, our 3rd and 4th graders will participate in the annual Puster Talent Show! You may access Friday's Fast Pass here. Please note, parents who would like younger siblings to attend the show, must check them out through the front office.
Please e-mail Manny Gonzalez (manuel_gonzalez@lovejoyisd.net) with any questions regarding our Fast Pass process. We look forward to expediting your check-in on campus!
Upcoming Dates

Lunch Visitors
Parents are welcome to visit their child(ren) for lunch any day. We ask that you eat with your child only (no friends) at either a back table in the cafeteria or outside in the courtyard/picnic area. Please follow the check in procedures below when joining us for lunch.
Andi Seaman: First Grade Teacher Resident
Andi is going above and beyond as our Teacher Intern, she has jumped in and taken the initiative with planning, teaching, assessing, building relationships with students (I don't think our class knows the difference between us ;) and being a true "co teacher". I'm not sure what I did to deserve this amazing partner this year, but I thank God we were matched! Thank you Andi for EVERYTHING you do each and every day!
Miss B's Buzz
Notes from Mrs. Schirf
Hello Puster Families,
The beginning of the school year brings the need to reevaluate students' current achievement. These student assessments provide teachers with valuable information that will guide individualized support for students. These assessments can include a Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA), Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), and mClass for K-2 students.
These assessments are given on an ongoing basis throughout the month of September. There are no specific study guides or support materials needed for these assessments. We just ask that your child continue to get a good-night's sleep and come to school ready for the day.
Beginning this school year your child will be taking MAP Growth, a norm-referenced assessment which measures achievement and growth in K–12 math, reading, language usage, and science. This assessment will provide valuable information to help teachers develop responsive plans to meet the needs of ALL students. More information about MAP Growth can be found in the MAP Growth FAQ.

Fall Book Fair
Our Puster book fair opens Monday October 2nd at 7:30. We will close Friday October at 12. Students may shop before school, during their library time and during other times their teacher allows. We will be open late on Thursday October 5th during Family Fun Night if you want to pop in and shop. We accept cash, cards or the easiest, safest method, a book fair gift card!
Buy a book fair gift card here: https://efairs.literati.com/product-category/gift-cards/
In the hands of students, digital gift cards are a safe and easy payment method that won’t get lost in a backpack. They make great gifts for teachers!
Gift cards can be purchased from your online fair at efairs.literati.com. Customers can buy gift cards in person as well, so long as they have the recipient’s email address at checkout.
HOW THEY WORK
Purcase online at https://efairs.literati.com/product-category/gift-cards/ or purchase gift cards at checkout, the customer enters in a recipient’s email address.
A gift card code is then sent to the recipient’s email inbox.
To redeem, the cashier scans the gift card code at checkout, or the recipient inputs the code themselves online.
Gift cards never expire, so students and teachers can use any remaining funds on their next Literati Book Fair!
Can’t wait?? Try our Online Companion Fair https://efairs.literati.com/books/?utm_source=MarketingCloud&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Retention+Journey+%233+%e2%80%93+4+Weeks+Before+Fair+Start+Date&utm_content=efairs.literati.com
and select Puster Elementary our online fair allows the whole community to shop our book fair, including those who aren’t able to visit in person. Online companion fairs feature an expanded catalog of books, giving you a bigger array of titles to choose from. That way everyone can find a new favorite read!
When our book fair ends, our online fair will close and all online purchases will be added to our total book fair sales. Then they will ship our school’s online book orders, which should arrive at our school within 10 days, depending on carrier transit times. Shipments will contain a packing list with teacher and student names, I will then distribute orders.

Notes from Officer Emory
Good Afternoon Puster Families,
This is your School Marshal, Steven Emory.
I will be teaching the students the AVOID / DENY / DEFEND in the upcoming months.
These 3 techniques are used during an act of violence (Robbery, Hostage situation, workplace violence, active shooter, etc.) so these techniques will serve them through their entire life and will be useful for you as well.
AVOID: Strats with state of mind.
Pay attention to your surroundings.
Have an exit plan
Move away from the threat as quickly as possible
Create barriers and distance between you and the threat.
DENY: when getting away is difficult or impossible.
Keep distance between yourself and the threat
Slow down the threat with barriers
Turn lights off and dont for get to silence your phone
Remain out of sight and quiet, hid behind large objects
Continue to look for an exit.
DEFEND: Your life depends on it.
If you can't do the first two, prepare to defend yourself
Be aggressive and committee to your actions
This is not the time to fight fairly. Don't give your life away.
Do you have a family plan?
This is a plan if something goes wrong, it could be at the store, park, any public place or at home.
Example what would you do if someone was trying to kick in your front door. Would your kids know what to do? Do your kids know what to do during a fire?
Scripting:
This is where you role play scenarios in your head. Preparing yourself for what may happen.
Example if I am at a restaurant I may say if a man with a gun walks in. I will tell my family to exit out the back or to get under the table.

Thank you for helping us to make Puster a safe environment for our students and staff. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Have a great rest of your week,
Steven Emory,

The Lovejoy Green Team is implementing a new recycling program beginning on Leopard Friday: Sept. 8th at Leopard Stadium. There are an estimated 4000 bottles at every varsity home football game that have been going to the landfill but they can be recycled. The Lovejoy Green Team does not funding from Lovejoy ISD and we need your help to buy bins for fields, courts and gyms.
Please consider donating to sponsor-a-bin or donate towards the purchase of a bin. Thank you for helping to make Lovejoy Cleaner and Greener. 100% of donations directly support Green Team programs and your donation is tax deductible.

Lovejoy Athletics would like to offer up the opportunity for premium parking for all Varsity home football games for the 2023 season. The Leopards will auction off 42 prime parking spaces just west of Leopard Stadium. No more coming early and fighting for that elusive parking space on nights like Leopard Friday or Homecoming - your spot awaits you!
These premium spots are open to any community member who wants to support the school and would appreciate a short walk to the ticket booth on those busy game nights.
