School Newsletter for Parents
Week of September 10
We hope you have been enjoying a nice weekend. This week's newsletter contains timely information about events this week as well as helpful procedural information related to this part of the school year.
Of course, this week we look forward to seeing many parents at school for our Curriculum Nights.
- Wednesday, September 12 - 7th and 8th Grade Curriculum Night
- Thursday, September 13 - 6th Grade Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night Details
- Parents can access the school through the Public Entrance on the south side of the school or
through the Student Entrance on the east side of the school.
- The 1st floor foyer will be bustling with activity:
- The PTA will have info about getting involved, its fall fundraiser, and ordering spirit wear.
- Attea's Builders Club is hosting a fundraising Bake Sale (see below).
- Gelfand Fund information will be available.
- Student schedules will be available for parent pick-up.
6:30 to 7:00pm - LRC Fair and Resource Open House
Various members of Attea's Student Services team will be in the Cafeteria to say hello, answer questions, and provide information to parents about different support programming.
7:00 - 7:20 - A Block Open House
During this portion of the evening, parents are invited to tour the Fine Arts, Global Language and PE/Athletic hallways to meet the teachers and learn about these educational programs.
7:25 - 8:22/8:37 - B Block Teacher Sessions
Parents will follow their child’s school for the evening for brief presentations by their teachers. Some students brought a copy of their schedule home. For parents who did not get a copy of their child's schedule at home, copies will be available at school. Below find pictures of the schedule for each evening.
*We ask parents to keep in mind that Curriculum Night is intended for brief presentations about course content and expectations. There simply is not enough time for conversations about individual students. If parents would like to discuss their child's progress with the teacher, please make separate arrangements by contacting the teacher by email or phone.
SP/AT PTA Meeting
The first middle school PTA meeting of the year is Tuesday at 9:15am at Attea. All are welcome. If you haven’t had the opportunity to connect with the PTA and would like more information about how to join, more information can be found at the following link - http://www.spatpta.org/.
Picture Day this Wednesday
Teachers have passed out picture order forms. Students should bring their picture order forms to give to the photographer on Picture Day. If your child has not received an order form, he/she can ask a teacher or stop in the office.
Picture retake day is October 15.
Technology Support for Parents
Hello and welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Attea Middle School. My name is Helene Davitz and I am the Attea Instructional Technology Facilitator. My role at Attea is to support your child’s instruction when using digital tools as part of their learning environment. In an effort to help you support your child’s school work from home I am providing you with 3 tutorials that will help you use the 3 core apps your child will be using on a daily basis.
Schoology for Parents- Your child’s team teachers will provide you with the access codes to join your child’s Schoology course at curriculum night.
We will be announcing other options for helping parents use these digital tools that will support your child’s education in the coming months. In the meantime, if you are having difficulty with any of these tools, please email me at hdavitz@glenview34.org.
Sincerely,
Helene Davitz

Correction: Health Office phone number
Last week's newsletter contained a section explaining procedures for reporting absences, late arrivals or early dismissals. However, it contained incorrect contact information. Here is an update with all of the correct information.
- Call the Attea Attendance Line to report absences and late arrivals (there are two options):
- 847-486-7700 and select Option #1
- 847-486-7712 (direct) - this line will not be answered and is for leaving messages for absence and late arrivals only.
- Call the Health Office at 847-486-7716 only to discuss student health related matters.
