September 19th-23rd

From Dr. Bryan Calvert, Principal

Cub Families,

We have had an amazing first month of school! We have made some improvements on the number of tardy students each day but I still believe we can do better. For the next month, our goal is to average less than 30 tardy students a day. We can do it! Make sure you are in the carline by 7:25!

Thank you for your support! We believe that a strong partnership between home and school sets our students up for success. Thank you for helping us Build an Excellent School Together!

Lunch Visitors:

  • If you want to eat lunch with your child, please complete the SignUp Genius. We have a limited number of visitor tables set up for each lunch period. Visitors must sit at a designated table with their child.
  • You must bring a valid ID when you come to check in for lunch visits.
  • Thank you for your support!

Why Does Attendance Matter?

If children don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the chance to build a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers.

Preliminary data from a California study found that children who were chronically absent in Kindergarten and 1st grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of 3rd grade.

At Bear Creek, school starts at 7:40 am and key instruction in reading and math start by 7:45 am each morning. Tardiness will cause them to miss important instructional time. Please have your student on campus by 7:30 each morning.

Parent Tech Academy - Wednesday, October 5, 2022

Let's "TECHnically" kick off the school year at 6:30 p.m. October 5 at the PDEC. Want to learn how to review your student's internet activity on their District device? How about setting up alerts if your child misses work? Wouldn't it be nice to see what your child is doing in Canvas or Seesaw? How about just having one place to go to access all the various logins and resources here in GCISD?

Well, NOW you can!

GCISD will walk parents through the ClassLink Parent Portal, your one-stop shop for parent resources in the district. Come learn about Skyward, Canvas/Seesaw and the LightSpeed Internet reporting.

Substitute Nurses Needed

GCISD is seeking RNs who would be willing to cover their child's campus clinic when the nurse is out. If you or a fellow RN are interested, please fill out the Sub Nurse Application, and send an email to Director of Health Services Amy Taldo. Current sub pay is $110/day, and you may choose days that work around your schedule.
