504 Coordinator's Corner
Please join us in recognizing these impressive coordinators below who do an exemplary job handling this important task!
Mayra Aviles - Collins Garden ES
"Being a 504 coordinator has given me the privilege to work together with parents, teachers, administration, and specialized district personnel to identify and address learning challenges students have that affect them. Working together to create individualized accommodations gives every student the equal opportunity to be successful in school."
Elvira Martinez Orozco - Caravajal ES
Principal Dr. Hugo Saucedo (left) and Elvira Martinez Orozco (right)
"The 504 program is such an excellent program because it provides students (that may have a disability that affects their daily life) the opportunity to be in the classroom with their peers, but with the extra support needed to remove the barriers to access their learning and education. I value the 504 Program because it prevents discrimination and protects the rights of our students, but more importantly, it provides the opportunity to be successful towards their educational goals and dreams."

What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexic Success Story - Beryl Benacerraf, M.D.
Radiologist & Expert in Ultrasound During Pregnancy
Like many dyslexics, Beryl Benacerraf has a unique way of viewing the world and brings her visual gifts to her work. In many ways, dyslexia has helped Dr. Benacerraf become the doctor she is today. “During residency, I recognized that I had dyslexia. And then I realized I had this gift for imaging,” she recalls. “Radiology is where I belonged. I live in a world of patterns and images and I see things that no one else sees. Anomalies jump out at me like a neon sign.” Perseverance also has a lot to do with Dr. Benacerraf’s contributions and success.
