Student Council Elections
by Khloe S.
As you may know, we have people in our school are running for Student Council Government. On December 05, 2018 all 7th and 8th graders running for senator or representative gave their campaign speeches. We began with 7th-grade representatives, and then 8th-grade representatives, then 7th-grade senators, and finally 8th-grade senators. Since there were so many speeches, we are going to summarize everyone's points and speeches here.
The first person to speak was Jaleia H. In her speech the first thing she promised everyone is that their voices and opinions would be heard. The second thing she promised is more field trips. The next thing she promised is that we have morning announcements not morning meetings so we can save time. The last thing she promised is that she would improve communication between the school and everyone else. Jaleia H. is running to be 7th grade representative.
Amyah R.
Brooklyn T.

The next person to deliver a speech was Gracie B. Her speech was short, to the point, and promising. The one thing she promised was that everyone’s opinions, voices, and ideas would be heard and considered. She is also running for 7th grade representative.
The third person to give a speech was Kyra V. She promised to help solve problems among the students, help make big changes in the school, and to give everyone the time and attention they need. She also is running for 7th grade representative.
Another person running for 7th grade representative is Amiyah R. During her speech she promised to have more spirit weeks, bring back our recycling program, do box tops to make money, and to make our school cleaner and more welcoming.
Carlee V.
Margaret W.
Olivia M.
The last person running for 7th grade representative is Margaret W. When she gave her speech she promised to bring back our recycling program, give recess to middle schoolers, improve our lunch food and varieties, and to make sure our voices are heard.
After the 7th grade went, the 8th graders began. The first person who gave a speech in the 8th grade was Olivia M. She promised that our voices would be heard. She wanted to make sure that everyone is given a fair chance at having their voices heard.
The only other person running for 8th grade representative gave her speech next. Makiya M. promised that our voices would be heard, we would get to sit wherever we want in the lunchroom, we get more extension options, and she’ll bring back student of the week/ month.

The next candidate for 7th grade senator was Carlee V. She promised that all student voices and opinions would be heard and considered, and that there would be more spirit weeks and school spirit.
Next was Kylee V. She promised that she would help make school more fun for everyone. She wanted to make sure every moment and memory you make at school isn’t bad, and that they’re all good.
The last 7th grade senator candidate to speak was Jack G. He wanted to make sure that we can listen to music in class while we’re working, freedom to sit wherever in the lunchroom, and that he would bring back the recycling program.
The first 8th grade senator candidate to speak was Brooklyn T. She promised to listen to our opinions, help make the school cleaner and better looking inside and out, help us treat each other better, give us more extension opportunities, and recess.
The next 8th grade senator candidate to speak was Audrey G. She promised to make the communication in our school better, give us a break time or entertainment time, give us all a community meeting agenda so we know what’s going on, and she promised to listen to everyone.

Jack G.
Kyra V.
Our last 8th grade senator speech, and the last speech of the day, was given by Rebecca V. She promised that she would serve us all, make sure we could sit with our friends at lunch, and that she would listen to us.
These are all of the 7th and 8th grade candidates for senator and representative. I hope that you now know what each person promised especially if you weren’t there or missed something. Stay tuned for our presidential speech overview and be sure to vote for the candidate you feel is fit for the part.
Second Street Students Present at STLP Regionals
On Thursday, a group of seven students from FMS went to the UK Student Center to compete at the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP). Our team did a project called “Literacy: The Next Generation”, in which we created a Google Classroom where teachers can find resources to help them incorporate technology in their classroom and how to make literacy more interesting. The team won’t find out if they moved on to the state competition until later this week, but the team is optimistic about there chances. If they make it to state they will be able to expand the project and they will present it for judges at Rupp Arena. Congratulations to Jack G. for winning first place in Sumo AI Wrestling. And congratulations to the rest of the team, Ella D; Jaleia H; Jordan T; David R; Sam G; Jack G; and Audrey G; for working so hard!
Profile of a Graduate
On December 5th, 2018, students and teachers came together to discuss Frankfort’s Profile of a Graduate in the Frankfort High School learning lab. We talked about what skills we think all students should have in addition to the core classes like reading and math, such as like communication or collaboration skills. First, we split into 4 groups of 6, each containing one FMS student, one FHS students, then four teachers and staff. We generated some questions that people might have about the Profile of a Graduate process. Next, we each individually wrote down our top three favorite questions then we all voted on what three questions we thought we could most go in depth with. Next, we wrote our questions on chart paper down and explored each question. Finally, we did a gallery walk to see what everyone else had discussed. We provided feedback to each group through sticky notes with an “ I wonder” “ I wish” and “ I like.” Our goal is to meet again in January and begin working toward a plan to implement this.

Band is fun at SSS because Mr.Nunn pushes us to do our best. If we have a mistake on Thursday we get a belt but only one mistake or zero. There are 6 different kinds of belts. The first belt is yellow, then purple, then orange, then pink, then green, and then blue for the fifth and sixth. If you get the yellow then you can move to the purple. After you get the purple you can get the orange then pink then green then blue. Having belts means you do not need to play that song again but only in the warm-up.

Upcoming Holidays and Community Events
Christmas Traditions You Should Start
You should start a homemade Christmas calendar! You can create one out of old cardboard and put chocolate in it, or if you want it to last longer, buy one from the store (a wooden one) paint it, fill it, and enjoy! Garage sale gift exchange- You can put up a sign in your neighborhood, grab some unwanted CLEAN things and have a gift exchange! Christmas movie night- Snuggle up by the TV with your family, break out some popcorn, and watch your favorite Christmas movie! Have a family Christmas slumber party! Break out your extra sheets and make a fort in the living room, read Christmas stories, and drink hot chocolate! Christmas morning music and hot cocoa- On Christmas morning, crank up the Christmas tunes and give out the hot chocolate for a Christmas morning breakfast. Christmas morning breakfast is never healthy anyway, so why not make it hot cocoa and cookies. Make extra cookies for the morning with hot chocolate to have for breakfast. When you are making cookies for the white-bearded man himself, make a little extra to have for the morning.

California Requires New Homes to Have Solar Panels
Recently, California’s state Building Standards Commision gave approval to requiring new homes to have solar panels on them starting in 2020. This means that all houses being built or houses that will be finished in 2020 or later will have to have solar panels included with them. Along with that, this approval also requires people to add high-capacity batteries to their homes electrical system. The whole approval was passed to store the sun’s energy. This was the first thing that was passed like it in the country.
“These provisions really are historic and will be a beacon of light for the rest of the country,” said Kent Sasaki. She is saying that this new act will inspire and encourage other states to make acts similar like this so they can also save the sun’s energy, which provides energy to the world. California’s goal is to receive 100% of their energy from renewable energy sources.
Although this approval is amazing because it saves a lot of energy, it will add approximately $10,000 to the price of homes following this rule. But, officials say that this will soon balance out considering that they are lowering the price of electricity bills.
A couple of weeks ago, California had really bad wildfires. Government officials are hoping that the new requirements will help with people who had extended power outages due to the natural disaster. “The new standards should have homeowners using 53% less energy,” said Drew Bohan, executive director of the energy commision. Over the past 40 years, California has saved its residents billions of dollars due to how much they are trying to change energy usage.
California is doing the world a big favor from making multiple attempts to save their energy. They are saving lots of energy and helping the environment since humans have hurt it so much. By saving energy we are helping ourselves more than we are hurting because of costs. Kentucky should be inspired by this and we should start to save ourselves and the world by making more attempts to save energy.

Game Review: WarFrame
by Anthony P.
If I were to rate this game I would give it 7½ / 10 because the game has decent graphics for how old it is the gameplay is petty fun but it can be difficult on progression. The game is free so that is one of the biggest parts the game is very fun and it is online which means you can play with other players from around the world and you can play with your friends. The game does have things you can buy like, such as prime stuff which is like the regular things but upgraded. Also there is platinum which is a premium currency. In the game, you can fight bosses and get new frames which are the characters you play as they have different abilities they come as blueprints and you can craft weapons to fight enemies but they do take time about 12 hours. I would recommend this game to everyone.
