STAAR Testing Parent Information
STAAR testing is next Monday and Tuesday.
There are so many small details related to STAAR testing. Please review this information so you are prepared to help your child.
1. Please encourage your child to relax and do his/her personal best. Talk about test strategies that you have found successful.
2. Please do not schedule any doctor or dentist appointments during STAAR testing next Monday or Tuesday.
3. The test is a paper/pencil test. Please make sure your child has at least two sharpened number 2 pencils. We need them to be the traditional yellow pencils that are clearly marked number 2. No mechanical pencils, please.
4. The cafeteria often serves a special sack lunch menu on STAAR days. If your child does not like the lunches, please send a lunch from home.
5. Please send healthy, dry snacks and chilled water bottles on Monday and Tuesday! The water bottles can only have clear, pure water. Please avoid sending messy snacks (like Cheetos), sticky snacks, or snacks that require spoons/ forks. Your child will be allowed to eat whenever he/she wants during the test.
6. Please send your child to school with 2 -3 chapter books to read after the test. We cannot allow Kindles, Nooks, or other electronic readers.
7. Did you know that the building will be serving free breakfast next week? A healthy, well-balanced breakfast at home is probably a better option, but if that is not possible – please take advantage of the school breakfast.
8. Please have your child wear very comfortable clothing. We will sit still for a very long time. You might also have your child come in layers. You never know when our rooms will be warm or cold. Light jackets or sweaters are especially important. We want your child to able to concentrate.
9. If your child has a device, smart watch, or cell phone, please keep them at home next week. If your child must bring the phone to school, we will ask your child to turn off the phone for the school day. Please do not text or call your child during school hours on the STAAR testing days.
10. It is important for your child to be well rested each morning. We will not have any homework next week so your child will have a chance to relax and get to bed early each evening. Please also try to have your child to arrive well before the bell rings at 7:45 next week.
Thanks for your amazing support!
We know the kids will do well! They are ready!
