Workshop Meeting
Preliminary Design Work for New Elementary School
Mike Kelly, Principal Architect at KCBA, reviewed some initial design plans for a new elementary school that is planned for a Fall 2020 opening. He will continue to make presentations at Workshop meetings in the coming months. Two community meetings are planned for May 24 at Jaindl Elementary and May 25 at Fogelsville Elementary - both at 7 PM. The meetings will allow for public input on design elements and facilities.
Continuous Energy Improvement Program
Dale Reitz, PSD Energy Champion, gave an overview of the Continuous Energy Improvement Program (CEI) at Parkland School District citing that more than $286,000 in savings has accumulated since the District launched an energy conservation focus in April 2014. The District was commended for receiving two of three statewide Moving to the Head of the Class/Keystone Energy Efficiency Fund Awards at PHS and SMS for outstanding energy conservation projects which you can read more about at this link: https://keealliance.org/schools-award/. OMS won the award the previous year. Auralia Lundquist of CLEAResult commended the District for achieving great results over three years and said that she will continue to help the District harness rebates and efficiency opportunities at no cost to the District. She will also offer free input on energy efficiency upgrades and rebates for the new elementary school that is being planned. She is planning to use Parkland as a case study once more rebates are realized so that others can model our success.
Special recognition was given to the following people for championing energy conservation projects in their buildings:
Cetronia - Mindy Marciniak - uses the Energy Dashboard frequently to educate the building about their energy use and makes videos that are played during morning announcements to keep the initiative top of mind.
Parkway Manor – Josh Wuchter - Captain Kilowatt Video and waste-free lunch idea
Springhouse – Steve Foulke - working with the HVAC and electrical computer systems to turn off power at strategic intervals to maximize energy savings.
OMS - Mike Messerschmidt - creating laminated signs that remind classroom students and teachers to shut off lights when not using them.

Green Team Energy Champions
Business Meeting
Roundtable
Bob Bold took a moment to remember Ms. Viola Wert who recently passed away at age 108. She was a retired long-time staff member.
Everyone was pleased with the energy savings report and thanked the team who gave a detailed presentation.
As in past meetings, when approving accounts payables, Board member Lisa Roth declined approval for payments to the cyber charter schools in an effort to emphasize her disgust in paying mandated reimbursements to underachieving cyber schools.
Next Meeting: May 16, 2017 - Workshop at 7 PM and Regular meeting at 8 PM.
Note: There is no School Board Meeting on April 25, 2017.
