H.O.S.A. Conference Details
HOSA REGION 3 CONFERENCE STATE QUALIFIERS:
Irizarry, Raquelle (11th grade)
Nemetch, Millie (11th grade)
Waldrop, Kendal (11th grade)
These young ladies placed 2ND in the event of Creative Problem Solving. In this event the competitors have a test portion for round 1 & then if their score as a team qualifies to move on to round 2 the students are given a community Health issue. This year their topic was: How does education impact teen issues such as bullying, teen pregnancy, relationship violence, depression, stress, etc and what could they do about it. They were then given 1 hr. of time to collaborate as a group to come up with a plan and present to board of judges. This team of three girls dominated in each round and qualify for State conference. I was later approached personally by the judges regarding the poise, teamwork & overall presentation of this group of young ladies. The judges were very impressed! So proud!
Childers, Hannah (12th grade)
Harris, Jamielyn (12th grade)- placed 2ND for Health Career Display. This event allows students to prepare a trifold poster prior to conference on a health career of interest as well as a prepared presentation for the board of judges. These young ladies qualify for State conference and they couldn’t stop smiling when they received their medals for their poster & presentation on Pediatric surgeons. Great job!
Maitre,Yasmine (12th grade)
Harrison, Bethany (12th grade)- placed 3rd, received medals and qualify for state conference with their impressive trifold & presentation on the Health career OB/GYN-Midwifery & Doula training in the event of Health Career Display.
Hester, Jo’Niyah (12th grade)- placed 3rd out of a large group of contestants in the event of Extemporaneous Health Poster. Competitors were given 3 hrs to prepare an awareness poster to campaign for a community issue of why it’s healthier to pack your lunch as a student in public school. They were very impressed with the details of her poster & her artwork. She was so excited when she received her 3rd place medal. She qualifies for State competition.
Thomas, Alexis (12th grade)-placed 3rd & received a medal for Medical Math. This 50 question test covers medical math essentials, measurement & conversions, drug dosages & IV solutions (pharmacology), & basic statistics. This young lady was so excited that her preparedness payed off! She qualifies to compete at State conference!
Molina, Stephanie (12th grade)- placed 3rd & received a medal in the event of Trans-cultural Health Care. The event is a knowledge test requiring competitors to apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information related to trans-cultural healthcare. She had to recognize, identify, define, interpret and apply cultural terms and concepts in a 100-item multiple-choice test. This young lady has been present in my power hour for months as well as Christmas vacation well spent in preparation for this test. She qualified for State & I couldn’t be more proud of this young lady.
Additional students that placed & recognized for their hard work with HOSA Ribbons:
Elliot, Fallon (10th grade) placed 5th in the poster event-Extemporaneous Health Poster. Great job! This was her first conference experience & she really enjoyed it.
Ellis, Taylor (12th grade) placed 4th in the event of Medical Reading. This young lady has spent the last few months reading five medical non-fiction books that were on the HOSA event’s list & then had to test on her knowledge of them today. The test consisted of 50 questions (10 questions per book). She loves to read & it shows! She did a great job.
Spangler, Brandon (12th grade) placed 4th in the written test on Nutrition. This was a written test requiring competitors to apply, analyze, synthesize and/or evaluate information related to nutrition and health. He has to recognize, identify, define, interpret or apply terms related to nutrition in a 100 item multiple choice test. This young man has been spending weeks in preparation for this test & have it his all. He even volunteered to come early this morning to assist in set up for the entire HOSA region event.
CF staff & CTE continued to brag about Brandon as well as Reddick, Lindsay (12th grade) for arriving by 7-7:15am to assist in whatever they needed help with.
I am so impressed by the soft skills, confidence & maturity that was shown by our students. Even if we wouldn’t have had state qualifiers these students showed up dressed for success & ready to work! Then, for the students that didn’t qualify it was a learning experience for them, they were still smiling & stated they had a great time!
