A Message From Supt. Klasna
Summary of ESD#52 School Board Meeting
Community, Integrity, Respect & Pride
Dear Ennis Mustang Families & Community,
I hope this finds you all well. In an effort to improve communication and transparency of the operations of the Ennis School District, I will be sending a school board meeting summary after the regular meeting. Please know that this is only a summary and not official minutes. If you are ever interested in viewing previous agendas and meeting minutes, you can find all of that on the school website www.ennisschools.org.
Please contact me with questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely,
Casey Klasna - Superintendent
Summary
Every May in the wake of the school election, there is a reorganization of the school board. The board nominated Kyle Stone as Chairman and Marilyn Jenkins as Vice Chair. New trustee Laura Blake took her oath. Remaining board members are Paul Bills and Dino Fanelli. Ginger Martello was appointed as the Clerk. A special thanks to outgoing board member, Drew Henrich, for 6 years of service.
The board certified the school election. The technology and general fund levies were approved by the voters, which we cannot thank enough. The technology levy is for 7 years and the general fund levy is perpetual.
Bridger Built was awarded the bid for housing initiative #2. Their bid comes in at $421,000 and some change, which is within the budget. This one bedroom duplex will be paid for through Federal ESSER (Covid relief funds) and the remaining will be paid for through the flex fund. Looking for a Sept. 1 completion date.
The football scoreboard was discussed and it is near completion of being built. Lehrkinds donated the scoreboard and Continental Construction donated the labor to install. This will be installed this summer.
All fall/winter coaches and advisers were approved by the board. Spring coaches will be approved in June after their season is over. There will be some positions available, so please check the school website in a week or so for those.
A traffic education program was approved and two instructors out of the district were hired. The program will start May 22 and hopefully be completed sometime in July.
Don Sauer from VC was hired as the new head of maintenance and head custodian. He will start June 5th. Richard Perry from NV was hired as a route driver/custodian and will start in July.
The board approved Abbie McKitrick as an additional K-12 school counselor for next year.
Contract percentages were approved for both school principals and the district business manager.
The library reconsideration policy was approved by the board. This policy has been discussed for the past several months between a board and teacher committee.
Hybrid calendar option #1 was approved and will be the new calendar for 2023-2024 school year. This calendar is 166 student days, which is 10 less from this year. The calendar will be a traditional 5 day week the first semester, then a 4 day week the second semester. The length of the school day will be approximately 13 minutes longer. That calendar will be sent out and on the website. We appreciate everyone’s input.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was approved for the Farm to Fork program. An MOU was approved allowing a teacher to make a lane change on the salary matrix.
Activity driver pay was increased to $20/hour from $15/hour.
The board will have a training on May 17th at 5pm in rm #3 in the HS. Elizabeth Kaleva from Kaleva Law Offices will be the trainer.
June, July and August board meetings will be the 2nd Mondays, not the 2nd Wednesdays. The next meeting is Monday, June 12 @ 5:30pm. Wednesday meetings will resume in September.
