Notes from the Principal
Boone Pedernales Falls Camp Out a Huge Success!!!
A big thank you to Lauren Cheaney, Anne Muller, Jennifer Evans and Jennie Glass of Families In Nature, for a wonderful camping experience last weekend. We had over 100 family members make the event. The kiddos had a great time playing at the Falls, hiking, hearing spooky stories with the Park Ranger, and making S’mores by the campfire. Our Saturday evening Family Pot Luck dinner was one of most fun experiences I have enjoyed since I have been at Boone. Thanks to everyone who made it such a great family time!!
Families in Nature Program Events open for all Boone Families
As part of the partnership of the Families in Nature (FIN) program with Boone this year, they would like to invite all Boone families to join all other FIN events at no cost between now and the end of the school year. Events can be found on their calendar. Interested families can register with FIN on their website and then email Jennifer Evans (jennifer@familiesinnature.org) to let her know which events they would like to attend. They are continually adding new events to the calendar so they encourage any interested families to check back regularly.
This invitation is for any of the families who attended the Pedernales Falls campout or the campus campout last spring, as well as any other families who maybe couldn't make it, but would still like to be included.
Families may also want to connect with Nature Rocks Austin, which is an incredible resource for getting families outside.
November Parent Coffee
Thank you to the many of you who were able to attend our October Parent Coffee. We will be hosting our second Parent Coffee tomorrow, November 1st, at 8:00am in our school Library. For this coffee we will be discussing School Bullying. We will be sharing both common misconceptions and State guidelines for what bullying is and how to handle bullying incidents. We will also share how we address bullying issues at Boone.
Veterans Day Program
We will have our traditional Veterans Day recognition at 7:45 am in the school cafeteria on November 8th. All veterans and families are welcome. This is a wonderful family event when we have an opportunity to recognize those who are or have served in our Armed Forces. Each Veteran will have the opportunity to be recognized individually. Our PTA will also host a reception will be held immediately following the assembly in the school library.
Boone Grounds Team
Two years ago, we created the Boone Grounds Improvement Team. This group was largely responsible for charting the direction and the priorities that we have been using as we have developed our Outdoor Science Area, improved our garden facility, increased the size of our Early Childhood play area, and the numerous other projects we have been undertaking to make Boone an even better place for learning.
It is now time for us to rejuvenate this committee and begin the process of charting our plans for the next several years. If you are interested in joining this important group, there is a link below to a Google form I would like you to complete. In the past we have meet at 4:00pm one afternoon a month. The exact date and time will be determined based on the membership needs of this current group.
We have only had a couple of parents sign up so far, so I would appreciate a few more volunteers.

Crawford's Connections
Happy Halloween, Boone Bears! I hope everyone who is celebrating today has a fun and safe evening!
Safety Drills: We are required by AISD to conduct safety drills throughout the year. We always want our staff and students to be prepared for what the day might bring our way. The drills are used to practice safety response protocols to ensure everyone stays safe in case of any type of emergency. It is always our goal not to increase our students' anxiety or cause them to be scared during any type of drill we have. We will always announce the drills at morning assembly and ask our teachers to discuss with their students the procedures for the drill before it happens. These practice drills will never be a surprise to our faculty and students.
Unfortunately, we live in a time that one of the drills we have to practice twice a year is a Lockdown drill. I am required to inform our school community when we will conduct this type of drill. We will have this practice drill on Wednesday, November 6 at 9:45. Students are trained to move away from sight and to maintain silence throughout the drill. Teachers will ensure all students are accounted for and safely in the classroom. The door is locked and will never be opened to anyone who is on the outside of the door. The drill will last a few minutes and then teacher and students will get back to their learning for the day.
If you have any questions about this type of drill or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out. I am happy to answer any questions that you might have.
Take care!

Music Notes
If you’re not practicing for something in music class then you must be asleep! Eight 5th Grade students were selected for the AISD All City Choir. They attended a day long rehearsal Monday 10/28 and the performance Tuesday night 10/29 at the AISD Performing Arts Center.
3rd Grade is practicing for their musical “Pirates!” so if you see some small pirates brandishing swords don’t be alarrrrrrmed…
4th and 5th Grade Honor Choir is preparing for the Veteran’s Day Assembly November 8th AND starting to practice songs for the holiday concert. It’s a little like putting out Christmas decorations before Halloween but we keep the door shut when we belt out Jingle Bells!
5th Grade classes are also preparing for a holiday musical—“Pirates Christmas”—which is a sequel of sorts to the 3rd Grade musical. The primary grades will get their chance in the spring and are working on tuneful singing to prepare for their debut.
