Ramayana

Background
The story of Ramayana comes from ancient India. This epic is also literary and was written by Valmiki. Ramayana tells a story about life in India around 1000 BC and focuses on models of dharma. The hero in this story is Rama. India considers him an hero because he lived his life by the rules of dharma. He was the perfect son and later on a perfect husband to his faithful wife, Sita. They were the ideal royal couple.

Hero:
- The hero in Ramayana is Ram. He was the ideal person for India. He lived his life following the rules an lifestyle of dharma. He was married to Sita, who was the image of beauty.
- When Ram was banished from his kingdom, his whole family was as well. During their banishment his wife, Sita, was abducted by Ravana. Ravana was the king of Lanka; He has 10 heads and 20 arms. So Rama set out to get his wife back with a arm of monkeys.
- Ram had to fight Ravana and his brothers in a vicious battle to free his wife.
- There was not a lot of Gods getting involved in this story. Though a army of monkeys did help him in his wife to get his wife back.

The Culture
The marvelous story of Ramayana has been retold by some India's greatest writers. The story is one of the staples of various dramatic traditions. A hugely popular television series, "Ramayana", was aired in India 1987-1988.
