CHIPETA
Collaborating and Problem Solving to Change the World
Happenings - September 2017
Did you know . . .
- that Chipeta Elementary is an inclusive community in which children are nurtured and challenged to become learners now and for the future?
- that students are self-directed learners collaborating, taking risks, and problem solving to change our world?
- that we strive to balance all of the competencies as we set high standards and levels of achievement and growth for all students?
Educating the Whole Child at Chipeta
We balance student learning in these competencies. When we do this, we support students in all realms of life and learning enabling them to master academic skills, transfer learning to new situations, become caring and positive citizens, and contribute in meaningful ways to their community - now and in the future.
What does this look like?
Scientists
All of our students learned about the Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21st. Students learned about safety, how solar eclipses happen, and how their environment changes throughout the eclipse. It was a day of wonder and awe!
Collaboration
Throughout learning, students have choices and opportunities to work independently or to collaborate with classmates. We believe that kids learn more when they can talk about their learning and have ownership in the learning.
Enriching Learning
As we work to develop the whole child, we help kids to learn and apply their learning across environments. Students visit the library regularly with their class and independently to browse, ask questions, and check out books.
